Kris Allen's live rendition of his first single apparently hasn't been much of a crowd pleaser on the American Idol summer concert tour.

The annual summer Idol concert tour kicked-off last week in Portland, OR, and Allen's rendition of "No Boundaries" has "stood out as a bit of an odd duck" among his other numbers, according to The Times, which added the others songs he is performing were "chosen for and crafted" to his "intimate, soulful style."
In addition, The Times cited reviews of the tour as referring to "No Boundaries" as a "misstep" that had been "generating a tepid crowd response compared with the other numbers."
Idol eighth-season finalist Anoop Desai posted Friday on his Twitter account that a new song would take "No Boundaries" place in Allen's set.
"I'm sure y'all have heard that kris has a new song in his set," posted Desai. "Just heard him sound check it, and it's amazing! Sacramento is in for a treat."
Allen and Adam Lambert first performed "No Boundaries" during Idol's final eighth-season performance episode. While DioGuardi -- who co-wrote "No Boundaries" with Cathy Dennis and Mitch Allan -- praised Lambert's rendition for making her proud to have worked on the song, she was more critical of Allen.
"Kris, I don't want you to be judged on that song, I do think it was too high," she told Allen during the final performance episode. "I want you to be judged on the fact that you are a compelling artist and you have been an incredible person to watch week-to-week."
Allen subsequently performed "No Boundaries" again the following night after being crowned the champ, and both Allen and Lambert's renditions were released digitally on May 20. Allen subsequently told reporters during a post-victory conference call that "No Boundaries" had both its positives and negatives.
"The track actually sounds really good; I listened to it," he said at the time.
"But doing a live performance is kind of like doing them just acoustically like just on guitar and maybe piano. It fits me a little bit better, but you know the song is good. They kind of have some stipulations on what they're supposed to do with these songs and so they have to write the words a certain way and it's supposed to have this nice feeling. To have your first single be something that you weren't a part of writing, it's a little bit weird, but you can't complain."
Allen's version made its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 single sales chart at No. 11, moving 134,000 downloads in its first week; while Lambert's version dropped at No. 72 and moved 36,000 downloads.
Allen's rendition of "No Boundaries" has since sold a total of approximately 280,000 downloads.
