While Larry Birkhead's relationship with Anna Nicole Smith had been rocky in recent months, the 34-year-old photographer -- who claims to be the father of Smith's baby daughter Dannielynn Hope -- has turned his website into a tribute.

Smith, 39, died suddenly on Thursday afternoon while in Florida, leading Birkhead to post two photos of Smith on his website:  one of the duo laying together on a sandy beach and another of the two embracing at what appears to be a party. The photos are accompanied by an audio file of Willie Nelson's "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground," which begins playing as soon as the website is loaded.

"Chance brought us together, our love couldn't keep us apart," wrote Birkhead. "We loved, we laughed, we shared a connection that couldn't be broken, regardless of the challenges. I loved her in life and I will love her long after."

Birkhead said in the tribute that Smith called him "her angel," while he referred to her as "my sweet potato."  However before Smith's death, Birkhead had sued the former The Anna Nicole Show star and Playboy playmate twice -- first seeking a court order to demand that she bring Dannielynn from the Bahamas to California for a paternity test, and then accusing Smith and her 38-year-old husband Howard K. Stern of conspiring to misrepresent Stern as Dannielynn's father.

"Our daughter, Dannielynn is a constant reminder of the love we shared and the life that we desired," Birkhead wrote on his website.

Until her death, Smith claimed Stern was Dannielynn's father.  On Wednesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert A. Schnider ordered Smith to submit a DNA test by Wednesday, February, 21. On Friday, Schnider will decide whether a court-ordered DNA sample can still be taken from Smith's body to help determine Dannielynn's paternity. An autopsy of Smith will also take place on Friday

Birkhead's attorney, Debra Opri, told People her client is "devastated" at having lost "the love of his life and the mother of his child."

"My heart is broken, my tears are endless," Birkhead concludes his tribute.  "Every night before we went to sleep, she made me say to her ... GOODNIGHT MY SWEET ANNA BABY."
