The Brooklyn, NY-resident was sent packing based on the results of home viewer voting that followed last week's performance episode broadcast, which saw the season's Top 4 finalists -- Amy; Lavell Crawford; Gerry Dee; and Jon Reep -- each deliver a stand-up routine.
Amy was trying to become the first female to ever capture Last Comic Standing's crown, however her elimination meant the trend of males winning the competition will continue for at least one more season. The fact apparently wasn't lost on Amy.
"Support live comedy, and if a girl takes the stage, give her a chance, she may surprise you," Amy told host Bill Bellamy after he revealed she was being sent home.
Amy's elimination wasn't revealed until the end of last night's broadcast. Following stand-up routine performances by Bill; actor Harland Williams; and Last Comic Standing fourth-season champ Josh Blue, Gerry and Lavell were both revealed to be safe and performed their own stand-up routine. Bill then announced John had claimed the final spot in the Top 3 and Amy was going home.
Home viewers in the U.S., U.K., Australia and Canada were allowed to vote for their favorite Top 3 finalist following last night's broadcast. Last Comic Standing 5's Top 2 finalists will be revealed on Wednesday, September 5 at 9PM ET/PT and perform one last time for home viewer votes.
The show's two-hour live season finale will air on Wednesday, September 19 at 9PM ET/PT. The winner will receive a grand prize package that includes a talent contract deal with NBC, a Bravo half-hour comedy special and $250,000.
