Liam Hemsworth says his engagement to Miley Cyrus was not a rash decision.
The 26-year-old Australian actor defended his 2012 engagement to the 23-year-old American singer and upcoming "The Voice" coach in an interview with News Corp Australia.
"I don't think that was impulsive," he said when asked if he considers the engagement impetuous.
"That was a well-thought out idea."
Hemsworth and Cyrus were just 22 and 19 years old when they announced their engagement in June 2012.
The couple ended their relationship in September 2013 after more than four years of dating.
"At the time we were both going in different directions and it's just what needed to happen," Hemsworth explained in the June/July issue of GQ Australia.
"We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time -- we both needed that."
Hemsworth and Cyrus' engagement is rumored to be back on following their reconciliation over the holidays.

The singer was spotted wearing her engagement ring on a date with Hemsworth last week in New York.
"People will figure it out, they already have... They're not dumb," the actor had told GQ.
Hemsworth currently stars in "Independence Day: Resurgence," which opened in theaters Friday.
The "Independence Day" sequel co-stars Jessie T. Usher, Maika Monroe, Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum.
