Principal photography begins this month in New Orleans for "Life Is Not a Fairytale: The Fantasia Barrino Story," Lifetime said in a news release.
The film will follow the impoverished, single, teenage mother to national stardom as winner of the Fox TV talent competition.
Loretta Davis of the Academy Award-winning film, "Crash," will portray Barrino's grandmother, while Tony Award winner Viola Davis has been cast as her mother, Diana Barrino.
The star of TV's "A Different World," Kadeem Hardison, will portray the singer's father, and newcomer Jamia Simone Nash will play Fantasia as a young girl.
