Music star Lizzo said allegations of sexual harassment and a toxic work environment in a lawsuit brought by former dancers for her shows are "unbelievable."

"These last few days have been gut wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing," Lizzo wrote in an Instagram post Wednesday.

"My work ethic, morals and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized," she added. "Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed."

The artist went on to say the claims come from former employees who were told their behavior on her concert tour was "inappropriate and unprofessional."

She said she is passionate about the art she is creating and expects hard work and high standards from all of her collaborators.

"Sometimes I have to make hard decisions but it's never my intention to make anyone feel uncomfortable or like they aren't valued as an important part of the team," she said.

Dancers Noelle Rodriguez, Crystal Williams and Arianna Davis filed the lawsuit Tuesday against Lizzo, born Melissa Viviane Jefferson, as well as the head of her dance team, and her company, Big Grrrl Big Touring.

The court documents allege they were weight-shamed, demeaned and pressured to engage in sexually explicit acts.
