Maksim Chmerkovskiy has opened up about why his wife Peta Murgatroyd's current pregnancy feels different from the rest.

Peta, who is 36 weeks pregnant, is apparently struggling with her body's transformation this time around, after already welcoming two children with Maksim.

"She's ready to get back in the world. I know she wants to get back to her body," Maksim, 44, told Us Weekly while attending the Sixth Annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards recently.

"I know it's tough, but we're constantly reminded that this is probably the last time we're doing it. This probably is the last time she's going to be in this situation."

Peta shocked the world when she announced in February that she's expecting her third child when she had just given birth to Rio -- who was born in June 2023 -- one year ago. Rio also has a seven-year-old brother, Shai, who was born in January 2017.

The So You Think You Can Dance judge joked that his wife is "huge" and "uncomfortable," but she won't have to wait much longer for Baby No. 3 given her due date is this summer.

"She really is enjoying it as much as she can while being in the moment," Maksim gushed of Peta, suggesting they're feeling sentimental about having their final baby.

"But we are taking this in a little bit differently than the first time."

Maksim also shared that his son Shai just completed first grade and is "a great kid."

"Now I need to back off, let him grow up instead of being an overbearing parent," the former Dancing with the Stars pro and guest judge explained.

"The first one you always are. Now I've got the second one who is hanging by the leg. You know what I mean?"

The pro dancer and choreographer is apparently looking forward to this next chapter in his life, becoming a family of five.

"We caught this baby by surprise, [but] this baby has no idea what's coming. It's happening, baby!" Maksim quipped.

Peta and Maksim revealed in March that they have a third baby boy on the way.

"I've been quietly preparing myself to be a real-life wolf pack Mumma with our THIRD baby boy on the way," Peta wrote in a joint posting with Maksim, alongside a video of the gender reveal.

"I CANNOT BELIEVE WE WILL HAVE 3 BOYS!!"

Peta previously said on Instagram of expanding her family, "After everything we've been through with miscarriages and IVF, we're beyond blessed and know we are uber lucky for this miracle to happen to us."

Peta concluded, "We're just so happy that we can finally tell you guys the good news. #pregnant #partyoffive #preggo #preggers #letsgo."

Maksim and Peta got married in July 2017, and they've experienced many ups and downs while trying to expand their family.

In a June 2022 interview, Peta shared how she was undergoing in vitro fertilization after suffering three miscarriages in the prior two years.

"It's been a long ride for our family. Each day of those two-and-a-half years I prayed for a miracle," Peta wrote on Instagram at the time.

Peta competed on Season 32 of Dancing with the Stars last year. She and her celebrity partner, The Brady Bunch star Barry Williams, were the eighth couple eliminated from the competition during a mid-November episode.

Peta became a pro partner on Dancing with the Stars for Season 13 in 2011. She has competed in a total of 14 seasons and claimed the mirrorball trophy twice.

For Maksim's part, he served as a longtime pro partner and guest judge on Dancing with the Stars. He won the mirrorball trophy once with Meryl Davis on Season 18.

Maksim also sat on the judging panel alongside Allison Holker and JoJo Siwa for So You Think You Can Dance's 18th season, which aired earlier this year on Fox.

JoJo had replaced Nigel Lythgoe as a judge after he was recently named in multiple sexual assault lawsuits.
