Married at First Sight star Amber Bowles believes her husband Matthew Gwynne doesn't need relationships with other people to feel fulfilled, which obviously doesn't bode well for their marriage.

During the Married at First Sight: Unfiltered broadcast that aired on August 28, Amber watched back a Season 9 clip in which Matt had brought her to his childhood home.

"Up until the last few years, I had a childhood home to get back to. But once my parents split up, they moved out and I stopped talking to my dad and my mom and my sisters. So I hope sharing this with Amber can make her feel a little bit more connected to me," Matt said in a confessional during the clip.

Amber saw Matt's openness as a sign he was putting more effort into their marriage, and during her appearance on Unfiltered hosted by Jamie Otis, Amber echoed that sentiment.

"I feel like [the home visit] definitely helped our marriage. I was just so taken aback by how verbal he was being and by how much he was sharing," Amber said.

"It just wasn't something I had heard from him before. So it felt like I was almost with a different Matt."

Married at First Sight expert, Pastor Calvin Roberson, joined Amber on Unfiltered and noted, "It's the most vulnerable I've seen him."

Jamie wanted to dig deeper into the conversation, and so she asked Amber the following: "Do you think Matt's upbringing affects the way he behaves in your relationship?"

"Absolutely," Amber replied.

"He definitely was living on his own at a young age. At like 16, he started traveling around for basketball, and so I think he's always been really independent," she elaborated.

"He doesn't really need relationships from others to be fulfilled, and so I think that affects us in our marriage because I'm different."

Pastor Cal said growing up in a family with a lot of issues and dysfunction can have a profound affect on the future of one's relationships.

"You have to sort of make it on your own," Pastor Cal shared.

"And with Matt, because he's had some dysfunction, he's finding it difficult to know how to be a husband -- and to know how to show real emotion when he hasn't had any role models."

Amber's Married at First Sight co-star Elizabeth Bice also made an appearance on Unfiltered and was asked whether she believes Matt's childhood-home visit could serve as a turning point in his relationship with Amber.

"I hope so! I definitely see this as a growing point, and this is progress. Yes," Elizabeth noted.

"I think so too, Jamie agreed.

Prior to Matt taking Amber to his childhood home, the couple had been struggling to communicate and develop a deep, emotional connection.

Since the pair already had the physical part of their relationship down, Matt suggested they should take sexual intimacy off the table in the hope of establishing more mental and emotional intimacy.

The couple has had their share of highs and lows, and the latest episode showed there's only about a week to go until "Decision Day," when each couple must decide whether they'd like to stay together or get a divorce.

Married at First Sight's currently-airing ninth season also stars Elizabeth's husband Jamie Thompson, Iris Caldwell and husband Keith Manley, and Deonna McNeill and husband Gregory Okotie.
