But when it became time for Brennan and Emily to move into a Denver apartment together, Brennan was standoffish and admitted he wanted a few days to himself.
Emily could sense something was off and that Brennan was shutting down, and then Brennan confessed he wasn't feeling physically attracted to his wife. Brennan, however, refused to tell Emily why there wasn't a spark on his part.
Brennan watched back a MAFS Season 17 clip featuring the couple's counseling session with Dr. Pia Holec during the December 20 episode of Married at First Sight: Afterparty.
"Can you put into words in a way that you feel comfortable with what is holding back for you the physical attraction?" Dr. Pia asks Brennan.
"Umm, I don't know. It's just not there," Brennan responds.
"So I'm going to make a suggestion for you to enter individual therapy, Brennan, outside of this process with the goal of helping to identify your emotions," Dr. Pia says. "Because I think that is going to continue to be a barrier for the relationship."
"Oh," Brennan says. "I don't think so."
Afterparty host Keshia Knight Pulliam asked Brennan what he had been so afraid to share while filming the scene with Dr. Pia and Emily.
"Things came out [as Emily and I got to know each other and she had said], you know, like, 'Oh, I get ghosted. I'll have one-night stands. I love partying,'" Brennan revealed.
"And I'm just sitting there, like, 'Are you ready for marriage?'"

Keshia pointed out how Brennan never articulated these things to Emily or the experts while filming, and Brennan explained how he felt helpless at the time.
"These aren't things that I can fix, right?" Brennan noted.
"I'm not trying to change anyone. You're 30-years-old and you want to party? Great. That's cool."

Keshia explained to Brennan that if he doesn't articulate what his problems are, he's not giving Emily the opportunity to do something different.
Keshia also asked Brennan if his perspective on therapy has changed at all since that tense conversation with Dr. Pia.
"I don't know if I'm doing a good way of articulating what I'm thinking. Watching it back, I know what I'm saying, and I'm like, 'Okay, maybe it isn't translating the way I want it to,'" Brennan acknowledged.
"Obviously I believe in therapy and I think it's great. I think it helps a lot of people. I think I was just trying to understand from a clerical standpoint where the suggestion was coming from."

"Yeah, absolutely," Brennan replied. "It seems like she's asking me to explain what it is I don't like about Emily, and I don't think that's nice or fair for her."
Brennan continued, "If I'm just not feeling a spark with someone, I think that's okay."
"But you didn't say that," Keshia interjected. "That's not what you said."
Brennan agreed, and Keshia explained how "not feeling anything" means he was not feeling a romantic connection.
"I understand now how not having feelings is a feeling," Brennan said with a laugh. "That's very interesting."
Brennan's Married at First Sight co-star Cameron told his friends that it's important to experiment with communication, even if it ends up accidentally hurting a person's feelings.
"You can say something and you can take it back. You can say, 'You know what? Actually, I was wrong,' and then work through that together," Cameron said.
Fellow Married at First Sight star, Lauren, also appeared on Afterparty and pointed out how she understood Brennan but had no idea what he was talking about when she first watched the episode of his chat with Dr. Pia.
"What you were trying to say is, 'I don't have romantic feelings toward Emily,' and you didn't want to come right out and say that, so it felt easier to say, 'I have no feelings,'" Lauren shared.
"Everyone is always worried about hurting [someone's] feelings, but when you don't say something, our mind is doing mental gymnastics now. So it's easier to just say what you're feeling -- because I can deal with the truth but I can't deal with what I don't know."
Despite having issues in his marriage, Brennan said he maintained hope for the future with Emily because he trusted the Married at First Sight process.
"But it's very hard when you're doing the best you can and you're constantly being told it's not enough. To be told that day in and day out, you know, it gets very taxing," Brennan explained.

On Married at First Sight, Emily was feeling deflated and wished her husband would tell her why exactly he wasn't attracted to her. Emily said she was being her authentic self and there was nothing more she could do.
Brennan insisted that although he wasn't feeling a sexual drive or connection in his relationship, that he still cared about Emily and felt protective of her.
