Married at First Sight star Ikechi Ojore has explained blindsiding Emem Obot by asking her to sign a divorce document in front of the whole cast at the couples' retreat.

On the February 4 episode of Married at First Sight: Afterparty, Ikechi watched back a Season 18 clip in which he had shown up late to the couples' retreat only to give Emem a divorce "paper" to sign.

Emem complained about how Ikechi was missing pages and there was no place for her signature, but Ikechi called that a "formality."

Emem said while she'd be happy to grant Ikechi a divorce, she wasn't going to sign his paper because it wasn't official or the correct legal documentation to proceed with a divorce.

"I can see myself not even wanting to be there," Ikechi told Keshia after seeing the footage.

"But I came [to the retreat] to conclude and put a period at the end of the sentence. I was done. And to be done with it, I did it."

Ikechi apparently wasn't expecting Emem to react the way she did.

"As soon as she blew up, [I thought], 'I've got to go. I shouldn't have wasted the gas,'" Ikechi said.

But Ikechi insisted he didn't show up at the couples' retreat in Illinois "to be silly" or make a scene.

"I came to just conclude something," Ikechi explained.

Keshia pointed out how Ikechi had brought a bad attitude or cold demeanor with him to the retreat.

When the cast was eating dinner, for example, Ikechi stayed near the front door and just watched them.

"The reason I was not at the dinner table is because I am allergic to shellfish," Ikechi shared. "So I couldn't have even been in that space."

Ikechi went on to say, "I didn't want to make a big deal of anything, so its was like, 'Alright, let me do this over there in the corner.' It was a very embarrassing moment that I could've just stayed home for."

When asked if he could go back and serve Emem divorce papers in a different way, Ikechi responded, "I would've sent somebody else to do it. I wouldn't have been there in the first damn place."

On the latest Married at First Sight episode, Emem though Ikechi had been giving her mixed signals with his hot and cold behavior.

But Ikechi told the cameras that he "knew it was over" with Emem "a while ago" and that's why he wanted to make their split official at the couples' retreat with about 10 days to go until Decision Day.

"I think she really wanted a husband and she really wanted her husband to fit the mold," Ikechi claimed in a confessional.

"I'm not everybody's cup of tea. I'm good. I'm at peace with the situation and the decision that I made. When I get in this car and go home, I am going to sleep so peacefully."

Once Ikechi left the gathering, Emem called Ikechi "a child."

Married at First Sight star Allen Slovick criticized Ikechi for serving Emem a divorce paper in front of everyone, and Emem explained how Ikechi was probably trying to get a reaction out of her.

Emem thought Ikechi had predicted she would get angry at him and explode, which would ultimately make her look bad on-camera.

Emem also said she believed that Ikechi had set out to hurt her that night, just like he had done on their one-month anniversary.

"What he doesn't realize is that he can't hurt me anymore," Emem proudly declared.
