Married at First Sight star Jamie Thompson believes Matthew Gwynne was just not into his wife Amber Bowles and was "scared to death" to admit it to his co-stars, the show's experts, and maybe even to himself.

During Wednesday night's episode of Married at First Sight: Unfiltered, Thompson watched back a Season 9 clip in which Matt boasted about his feelings for Amber at the couples' retreat and claimed he was putting a lot of energy into his marriage because of those strong feelings.

Amber, however, questioned whether Matt was "blowing smoke up everyone's ass" since he had never expressed such a sentiment to her personally before. Matt also seemed to spend more time away from Amber than actually being with her.

"I think there was a lot of confusion in the room because, like, [Matt's] actions and the words don't line up at all," Thompson explained on Unfiltered after the clip aired.

"He seems genuine, like, he seems authentic when he's delivering this, but it's just like the actions don't [match up]."

Married at First Sight expert, Pastor Calvin Roberson, and Thompson's co-star, Deonna McNeill, also appeared in the Unfiltered broadcast, which was hosted by Jamie Otis.

Pastor Cal laughed about Matt's speech at the retreat, saying, "I think Matt is telling everyone there what he wanted to believe. I think he was talking about the idea; I don't think he was talking about the reality."

Deonna then elaborated on why everyone got the feeling Matt was embellishing on the true state of his marriage.

"When we were in there, we were listening to him say all of these nice things, and we're like, 'Oh that's so sweet.' But when you looked at Amber, her body language was saying something completely different," Deonna insisted.

"[Amber's body language] was saying, 'B-S,'" Pastor Cal chimed in.

"It was like, 'Something's not matching and something is off,'" Deonna reiterated.

Otis then asked the group what they thought Matt might've been hiding.

"It just seems like he's not being truthful," Thompson said of Matt. "It just seems like he's not into Amber and he's scared to death to say that for whatever reason."

"I agree," Deonna said. "He was just saying what he wanted everybody else to hear."

"Exactly," Thompson noted.

Since Married at First Sight's ninth season premiered earlier this summer, there have been many hints that Matt may just not be that into Amber.

Not only do they lack emotional intimacy, but Matt also decided to take physical intimacy off the table about halfway through the experiment.

"It makes me wonder if he was ever physically attracted to me," Amber shared on an earlier episode of Unfiltered.

"It makes me wonder, like, why would he have sex with me in the first place if he wasn't?... There's just a lot of questions going through my head with, 'What's wrong with me?' or 'Am I not pretty enough?' or 'Am I not good enough?'"

Matt never flat out said he lacked an attraction to Amber, but he previously said his biggest fear about the couple's marriage was potentially "losing physical attraction."

Matt also found Amber's height to be "kind of a disappointment." The 6'9" former professional basketball player previously confessed on Unfiltered he had been hoping for a taller bride than just 5'2".

"I've dated, seriously, like four different girls. One was 5'2" but the others were all six foot and above," Matt revealed. "So I was expecting just a little bit taller!"

Matt also didn't seem excited about the fact the experts had matched him with a woman who considers herself a Tomboy and doesn't enjoy wearing makeup.

"I personally like a little bit of makeup and a woman who is into style/fashion," Matt told Reality TV World at the start of the Married at First Sight season.
