Married at First Sight star Johnny has claimed his wife Bao is one person on-camera and another person off-camera, which apparently presented an issue in their relationship.

On Married at First Sight's thirteenth season, Johnny has repeatedly said he wants to run from Bao and end their relationship due to their differences and that marriage was the only thing keeping them together.

After Johnny and Bao returned to Houston, TX, from their Florida honeymoon and moved into a neutral apartment provided by Married at First Sight production, Johnny suddenly and unexpectedly decided to spend the first two nights at his old place.

Once the pair reunited after some time apart, Bao and Johnny met with Married at First Sight expert Pastor Calvin Roberson for a discussion about their relationship one week into the extreme experiment.

"What was it like between you and Bao after Pastor Cal left?" Married at First Sight: Unfiltered host Jamie Otis asked Johnny on the September 1 broadcast.

"Oof," Johnny muttered with a laugh.

"Oh boy," said Jamie, who is still married to her Season 1 match, Doug Hehner.

"These are hard things to talk about," Johnny admitted.

Fellow Married at First Sight grooms Zack and Gil Cuero also appeared on Unfiltered and reminded Johnny of the talk show's title, suggesting he should speak his mind and his truth as a result.

"Alright," Johnny noted, squirming in his seat. "Sometimes when Bao and I have a third party in the room, it's almost like we're being supervised, like there's a teacher in the room and we're two kids."

"And as soon as the teacher is gone," Johnny continued, "Bao is back to being, like, Bao."

When asked to elaborate on what he meant by that considering viewers don't know Bao on a personal level, Johnny explained, "She is always concerned about how she looks and how she appears. She's always trying to make someone like her."

Johnny said, on the contrary, he's the type of person who puts it all out there -- good and bad -- and lets it all hang out without a care in the world.

"If people like me, they like me. If they don't like me, they don't like me -- but at least I'm being me," Johnny shared.

Jamie pointed out how Johnny and Bao's situation seemed to be "a classic case of be yourself on and off camera."

"Because if you're not," Jamie said, "it's confusing to the person you're with. [And also], you can't keep up with the facade anyways."

Johnny and Bao had argued during their honeymoon about little things.

Johnny, for instance, accused Bao of focusing too much on the past and not living in the moment, and he expressed having a problem with Bao's infrequent showering habits and how she'd like to jump into bed after exercising without rinsing off first. Johnny was also losing patience when it came to ramping up intimacy and the affection between them.

Bao, on the other hand, didn't appreciate Johnny taking her insecurity of snoring during the night lightly, and she worried about his expectations of her given he's so particular in his life at home.

Once the pair returned to Houston, they apparently got into a big argument that resulted in Johnny needing to "reset" and spend some time alone.

"I hope you aren't setting a precedent that whenever you feel like it's too much, you're just going to step away and just walk out of our home that we created," Bao told her husband.

When the couple sat down with Pastor Cal in their shared apartment, Bao opened up about how Johnny made her feel rejected and unattractive at times, especially when Johnny said Bao's giddy and perky reaction to things turned him off and made her look like a child to him.

But Pastor Cal begged Bao to continue being herself and not get stuck inside her head.

Pastor Cal told Bao that there's nothing wrong with the way she expresses joy and this was actually Johnny's problem to deal with and conquer.

Pastor Cal reminded Johnny how Bao is a grown woman in every sense, and the expert predicted that both individuals could grow intense and deep feelings for one another as long as they don't self-sabotage and let the relationship fail before then.

After all, Johnny and Bao appeared to have more similarities than differences when taking into account their love for family, shared Vietnamese culture, morals and values, interests and goals for the future.

Married at First Sight's thirteenth season, which currently airs on Wednesday nights at 8PM ET/PT on Lifetime, also stars Gil and his wife Myrla Feria and Zack and his wife Michaela as well as Brett and Ryan and Rachel and Jose.
