Murphy, who has served as a regular judge or guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance since its first season debuted back in 2005, may be quitting the show before its twelfth season airs next summer, Deadline.com reported.

Fox is reportedly looking for a new judge to join mainstay Nigel Lythgoe and considering former American Idol and The X Factor judge Paula Abdul.

However, according to Deadline Hollywood sources, formal talks about a new judging panel have yet to even begin.

Abdul wouldn't be an apple that has fallen far from the tree, as both Idol and The X Factor aired on Fox and she offered her advice and praise to contestants on So You Think You Can Dance in previous seasons as a guest judge.

Fox reportedly declined comment when contacted.

Murphy appeared as a guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance's first two seasons before becoming a permanent judge starting with Season 3 of the reality dancing competition, which is produced by 19 Entertainment and Dick Clark Prods. Murphy took a brief break from the show in Season 7.
