The newspaper said the dead were eulogized during a private gathering at the Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church. The 300-seat church's doors were later opened for a public memorial, which saw thousands of mourners stopping by to pay their respects and leave messages for the family.
Hudson's mother and brother were shot to death Oct. 24 in their home on Chicago's South Side. The body of Hudson's 7-year-old nephew was discovered in a parked sports utility vehicle on the city's West Side last Monday.
The estranged husband of Hudson's sister Julia has been called a person of interest in the case, but has not been charged. He was being held on an alleged parole violation.
Hudson, who won an Oscar for her work in the movie musical "Dreamgirls," was said to be going to a private funeral for her three family members Monday, the Tribune said.
