MTV has announced that it has greenlit Moves, a new music reality series that will follow the lives of dancers working to make it in the dancing business. The series is expected to premiere sometime in late 2006.

The eight-episode series is being executive produced by actress, singer and dancer Jennifer Lopez, who played a key role in auditioning and selecting the dancers to be featured on Moves. The former In Living Color "Fly Girl" will also make several cameo appearances throughout the season, ala Sean "Diddy" Combs in MTV's Making the Band series.
"There are very few people who have attained the level of success (Lopez) has. Across music, film and more, she is recognized worldwide, and it all began with dance," said Lois Curren, executive vice president of entertainment and programming for MTV. "Now she will share her experience and knowledge with a new generation of dancers, and well find out if they have what it takes to stand up to her expectations."
Six dancers will appear on Moves -- Staci, a former Pussycat Doll member with aspirations to also become a singer; Jersey, who hopes that dance will be her ticket into fame and out of debt; Nolan, a young dancer in need of one big break who battled personal troubles to make it to this point; Blake, a arrogant diva who is quickly becoming one of the best dancers in Hollywood; Kenny, a former baseball player from Boston who enjoys partying and got his first big break dancing with Lopez; and Celestina, a driven hip-hop hottie from Washington DC who sees dance as a first step to building her empire.
"I started out as a dancer, and I know what that world is," Lopez. "These dancers have dedicated their lives to this, and honestly, the glory is not always there. It's something they do only out of love. It's a tough life and I want to show that struggle."

Lopez is executive producing Moves with Simon Fields, a partner in her company, Nuyorican. Rod Aissa and Jesse Ignjatovic are also executive producers. Maurissa Tancharoen and Kevin Tancharoen, who are represented by ICM, are co-executive producers. Lopez is represented by the William Morris Agency.
