Each episode of the tentatively-titled series will feature DJ AM assisting an addiction specialist as they hold "tough-love interventions" for young people who have seen their lives become unmanageable due to dependence on a chemical substance, according to The Reporter.
DJ AM recently revealed he was abused by his father as a child -- leading to a life of drug addiction and even a suicide attempt, according to The Reporter, which added he has been sober for about a decade.
MTV has yet to decide when the series will air. It is being produced by Ish Entertainment and Gigantic Productions.
The 36-year-old former member of the rock back Crazy Town has several ties to reality television, as he previously appeared in an episode of MTV's Punk'd and also dated Nicole Richie while she starred on The Simple Life. The two were briefly engaged but subsequently broke up in 2006 before walking down the aisle.
In addition, DJ AM is good friends with former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker -- who previously co-starred in MTV's Meet the Barkers reality series.
Last September, DJ Am and Barker were both critically injured when a Learjet carrying them and four others burst into flames during an aborted takeoff in South Carolina. DJ AM and Barker were the only survivors, suffering burns on a majority of their bodies.
