Discovery Channel has announced its longest running series MythBusters, which originally debuted 13 years ago in January 2003, will premiere its final season beginning January 9, 2016.

MythBusters, hosted by special effects artists Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, will end after 248 episodes, 2,950 experiments, 1,050 myths, and 900 explosions.

"MythBusters is -- and will always be -- an incredibly important part of Discovery's history. Adam and Jamie are enormous talents who have brought learning and science to the forefront of this network, and their legacy will continue to live on over at Science Channel," Discovery Channel executive Rich Ross said in a statement.

"The MythBusters library will be moving over to Discovery's sister network in 2016, where I know audiences new and old alike will be able to experience and learn with Adam and Jamie and the rest of the MythBusters family."

"Making MythBusters has fundamentally and irrevocably altered the way I think as a person, as an artist, and as a scientist," Savage said. "I'm glad for the chance to say goodbye with some of the best television we've ever made. I will miss making this show."

"I never dreamed we would be on television at all," added Hyneman, "much less for such a long time and with so much praise for keeping a thought provoking show on the air. And best of all, we were able to do what we do and still have all our fingers and toes."

John Luscombe, Executive Vice President of Beyond Productions -- which produces MythBusters -- called Savage and Hyneman the "blood, sweat and tears" of MythBusters. Luscombe said they have such "unique personalities" and "extraordinarily diverse skill sets" that "redefined science television."

For the show's 14th and final edition, Savage and Hyneman will find the "ultimate way to go out with a bang," according to Discovery.

The Science Channel will be airing every episode ever made of MythBusters in chronological order this winter. The re-runs will kick off Wednesday, December 23 at midnight and conclude on Sunday, January 3 at 8PM ET/PT.
