NBC announced it has ordered Amne$ia, a new Mark Burnett game show that will challenge contestants' memories for the chance to win cash and prizes.

The twist is that all of the questions thrown at Amne$ia contestants come from their own life, forcing them recall memories from their past that might have been forgotten long ago.

"Amne$ia is a relatable and nostalgic game show that's deceptively simple -- and yet exposes how shaky all of our fondest memories can be," said NBC executive vice president Craig Plestis.

Burnett created Amne$ia with Roy Bank, and both will serve as executive producers for the game show.  Bank and Burnett also created Fox's Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? game show, which will return with new episodes to begin September 6.

"Part of the fun of game shows is watching contestants struggle with recalling what should be the simplest information," said Bank.  "To recall music lyrics and grade school test answers certainly seems like the simplest challenge, but nothing should be easier than recalling the facts of your own life.  Nothing will be more entertaining than watching contestants draw blanks."

Burnett has a history with NBC as well as current NBC Entertainment co-chairman Ben Silverman -- whose Reveille production company's first television project was The Restaurant, which aired in 2003 on NBC. In addition, Burnett created and produced The Contender's first season for NBC in 2005 before the boxing reality competition series moved to ESPN; and he also executive produces Donald Trump's The Apprentice, which still has a home at NBC.

"NBC and Mark Burnett have always made a dynamic team and we're ready to introduce another entertaining and unique alternative series," said Plestis.  "With Mark's track record and brand recognition, the show promises to be the latest in his string of successful programs."

Amne$ia is scheduled to debut on NBC during the upcoming 2007-2008 season.

"The simple relatable concepts always cut through and get attention on television.  Amne$ia fits that to a 'T,'" said Burnett.  "I'm excited for it to be my next big hit on NBC."
