After weeks of teaser promos, NBC has finally announced the premiere of The Real Wedding Crashers, a new six-episode hidden camera comedy series where the couples being married are in on the joke, teaming up with five "crashers" to create an event their guests won't soon forget.

The plum post-Heroes time period (currently home to NBC's struggling The Black Donnellys new midseason drama and previously home to The West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin's highly promoted but just as poorly rated Studio 60 fall series) ranks as a much higher profile time period than Wedding Crashers was originally expected to have. Although never formally announced by NBC, The Real Wedding Crashers had originally been expected to premiere this past Sunday (April Fools' Day) and air in the the Sundays at 8PM ET/PT time period left vacant by last week's Grease finale. (Heroes is NBC's most-watched scripted show of the season and currently ranks 18th overall in Nielsen's season-to-date television ratings.)
In each one-hour episode, the crashers will go "undercover" and pull off some Punk'd-esque pranks with some help from the bride and groom. Some of the pranks will be "light-hearted and funny" while others will be "emotional and bring the families together." Each episode will end with the crashers revealing their hoaxes to the guests in attendance at the wedding.
Steve Byrne, Ben Gleib, Desi Lydic, Catherine Reitman, and Gareth Reynolds will serve as the show's five improv performers. Similar to the Meet The Parents-inspired Meet My Folks reality series that NBC debuted in back 2002, The Real Wedding Crashers was inspired by a feature film -- in this case New Line's Wedding Crashers comedy. However unlike Meet My Folks, the studio behind The Real Wedding Crashers' feature film inspiration will be part of the reality project it inspired -- the show is being produced by New Line Television and Katalyst.
Along with Kutcher and Goldberg, The Real Wedding Crashers is executive produced by Karey Burke, Rich Meehan, Jon Kroll and Jim Rosenthal.
