Jessica Simpson's estranged spouse, Nick Lachey, may not be a "Newlywed" any more, but he's about to play one again on TV, it was reported Monday.

The former 98 Degrees singer and MTV reality star will headline a romantic comedy for the WB network as a pro baseball player trying to deal with a new marriage, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The yet untitled show is being created by Danny Jacobson of NBC's "Mad About You."

Lachey and Simpson, who shot to fame as stars of MTV's "The Newlyweds," announced late last week they had decided to "part ways."

Their statement released on Thanksgiving Eve said the decision was mutual between "two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other."
