Nick Viall is more than a little upset William Shatner pretty much can't stand his guts.

An unexpected feud broke out on social media between Viall and the 86-year-old Star Trek actor earlier this week in which Shatner began a campaign to kick The Bachelor star off Dancing with the Stars' 24th season. Shatner was doing everything in his power to convince fans on Twitter not to vote for Viall, 36.

Shatner seemed to suggest Viall is a "vile" man who doesn't deserve the Dancing with the Stars stint after his behavior on Andi Dorfman's season of The Bachelorette a couple of years ago. (Viall memorably clashed with his fellow suitors and revealed he had sex with Dorfman in the fantasy suite on After the Final Rose).

"It was heartbreaking, because I am his biggest fan," Viall told Extra when asked about Shatner's beef with him. "Yeah, who doesn't like Captain Kirk? Also a big T.J. Hooker fan -- that's some of his best work. So it's heartbreaking, I'll be honest."

Viall, who spoke to Extra during Dancing with the Stars rehearsals with his professional partner Peta Murgatroyd, added that "the show must go on."

As for whether Viall believes he can win Shatner over, the former software salesman said, "We're just gonna do our best, and it's really just up to William to come around or not. But we're just going to focus on our foxtrot," which he later called "so technical."

Murgatroyd then chimed in and told Viall, "I'm gonna make him love you by the end of this, for sure."

Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron recently called for a truce between Viall and Shatner, so whether that had any affect remains unseen.

Viall and Murgatroyd insisted there is an open invitation for Shatner -- who co-starred on NBC's Better Late Than Never reality series last summer -- to come to a Dancing with the Stars performance show.

"Maybe we will have a cup of coffee one day and hash out our differences," Viall noted with a big smile. "I could buy him a latte. I don't know if he drinks milk, but."

On Monday night's premiere of Dancing with the Stars, Viall and Murgatroyd earned 24 out of 40 points for their cha cha routine from the judges and therefore tied for seventh place with another couple on the leaderboard.

At the top of the judges' leaderboard sits Olympic gymnast Simone Biles and NFL player Rashad Jennings.

"I've gotten to know Rashad a little bit and he's definitely got some swag, so I wasn't shocked he has some moves," Viall told Extra.

"Was anyone surprised Simone can dance? I'm surprised they haven't given her the mirrorball trophy already, and we're just dancing for second place. I'm more surprised about that. It's a stacked lineup."
