Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea have addressed their alleged feud.
The 31-year-old rapper proudly proclaimed, "When you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it," before she seemed to imitate Azalea's video for "Fancy." "No, no, no shade," she insisted.
Minaj took to Twitter on Wednesday to clarify what she meant by the speech. It appears she did not mean to offend Azalea, but she remains adamant that women should write their own music.
"The media puts words in my mouth all the time and this is no different," she writes. "I will always take a stance on women writing b/c I believe in us! I believe we're smart enough to write down our own thoughts and perspective, just like the men do. I've been saying this for 5 YEARS."
"I've congratulated Iggy on the success of Fancy, publicly," she continues. "She should be very proud of that. All the women nominated should b proud. That will never change my desire to motivate women to write. Our voices have to be heard. I hope I inspire up & coming females to do that."Azalea addressed the topic later that day on Instagram. She posted a screenshot of a note to the site and captioned the photo, "This is my mind state about everything & the only time I'm ever going to refer to this again."
"I have to say the general explosion of pettiness online in the last few days is hard to ignore and honestly... lame," she writes. "If I had won the BET award that would've been great but it wasn't my year & I don't mind - so you shouldn't either."
Minaj plans to release her third studio album, The Pink Print, later this year.
Azalea released her debut album, The New Classic, on April 21, and the record's fourth single, "Fancy," has spent more time at No. 1 on the Billboard chart than any other song by a female rapper.
