In January, Dancing with the Stars professional Louis van Amstel said he had recently spoken to Abdul and she expressed interest in the ABC show. Her interests were then reiterated last month by Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron, who claimed Abdul told him she'd "love" to compete on the show.
"It's all Tom's fault!" Abdul joked to OK!. "I'm a huge [Dancing with the Stars] fan. It would be a phenomenal experience for me to be a student and to learn a form of dance that I've never been introduced to."
If Abdul were to participate in the show, she'd logistically have to do so during a fall installment since both Idol and Dancing with the Stars film at the same time in the spring.
"There's a thing called the '[Idol] off-season,' I think," Abdul told OK! about when asked about appearing on another television show that airs on one of Fox's broadcast network competitors.
In addition, Abdul also insisted that -- despite working as a Los Angeles Lakers' Laker Girl and eventually became the group's choreographer in the 1980s and also having choreographed music videos for numerous artists -- she's never been a professional dancer.
"I was always a choreographer," she told OK!. "But I've never been able to be a student and I've never done partnering. If I even dabbled with it, I had to be the guy and that's not fun. I want to wear the pretty dresses like the girls."
Despite being an Idol regular since the show premiered, Abdul also professed her fondness for Dancing with the Stars -- with both shows taping on Tuesday nights at CBS Television City.
"What are the odds that two of my favorite shows are so close to each other?" she asked OK!. "I can throw my panties at Tom Bergeron!"
Since she is a "forever fan" of the show, Abdul offered some insight on Dancing with the Stars sixth season.
"It's fantastic. Unbelievable. Out of the ballpark," she told OK! before backtracking. "Ask me tomorrow night and I'll deny I said one thing!"
Abdul said she's been "blown away" by sixth-season frontrunners Kristi Yamaguchi and Jason Taylor, and added she's also been cheering her friend Marlee Matlin.

"[Yamaguchi should win] based on consistency and showing her spirit," Abdul told OK!. "In our generation, Kristi Yamaguchi as a world class figure skater is about as good as it gets and to see her in a different realm is awesome."
