The California rock band Supernova has asked a San Diego federal judge to stop CBS from using its name on the reality TV show, "Rockstar: Supernova."
"Our client has taken legal action in order to preserve its rights to the name the band has worked so long and hard to establish," John Mizhir Jr., one of Supernova's attorneys, told The Reporter. "We tried to settle the matter quickly and fairly, but after lengthy negotiations with CBS, Mark Burnett Prods. and others, they left us with no options but to seek the preliminary injunction."
Supernova was founded in 1989 by Jodey Lawrence, Art Mitchell and David Collins and has released three albums.
"Rock Star: Supernova" is a weekly talent competition searching for a singer to join drummer Tommy Lee, bassist Jason Newsted and guitarist Gilby Clarke in a super group.
