The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has announced that Project Runway has won the organization's Outstanding Reality Program award, which was presented at the 18th Annual GLAAD Media Awards ceremony on Monday night in New York.

The 18th annual awards marked the first time that the popular Bravo reality show had been nominated for a GLAAD award, which recognize and honor mainstream media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community as well as the issues that affect their lives.

"I don't know whether people realize the seminal work of Bravo and, by definition Bravo's support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community," said Project Runway style guru Tim Gunn, who accepted the award on behalf of the reality competition series.  "Beginning with Queer Eye and transcending to Project Runway and Work Out, Bravo's content dispels myths, challenges stereotypes and positions lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues thoughtfully and respectfully. Winning this award is quite possibly my proudest moment."

In addition to Project Runway, Bravo also garnered nominations in the Outstanding Reality Program category with Queer Eye and Work Out.  CBS' The Amazing Race and Big Brother: All-Stars rounded out the list of nominees.

"This GLAAD award recognizes Bravo's commitment to present our diverse and eclectic view of the world through the creativity of our programming,"  said Bravo president Lauren Zalaznick

Bravo will begin holding casting calls for Project Runway's fourth season this Friday, March 30 in Los Angeles.  A premiere date for the fourth edtion has yet to be announced.
