Rachel Lindsay's The Bachelorette announcement was definitely premature since it spoiled that Nick Viall didn't choose her in the end of his The Bachelor season, so fans are wondering why ABC and producers didn't wait longer for the big reveal.

According to a source, producers considered putting off The Bachelorette announcement until after Viall hands out his final Season 21 rose on TV, but they opted to reveal Lindsay as their choice early in order to ensure a solid group of men would be cast to fight for her heart, Us Weekly reported.
The earlier the network revealed Lindsay as their next Bachelorette, the more time they'd have to cast the right men, who are truly invested in finding love particularly with the 31-year-old Dallas attorney.
"They want to be able to cast guys specifically for her," the source said. "There is almost no time between Bachelor ending and Bachelorette starting filming, so they wanted to have plenty of time to find the perfect guys for the next season."
Due to The Bachelor spoilers online and hype/gossip on social media, producers reportedly thought Lindsay's casting wouldn't come as a shock to most fans.
"It was going to get out anyway that Rachel would be the next Bachelorette, so producers figured they might as well announce it now and make it official to make sure they get the most and best number of applicants for her season," the source continued.
"It works better to have the next person as a definite as opposed to speculating on who it could be, in terms of casting."
ABC apparently did the right thing because applicants are going crazy for Lindsay, according to the magazine, and her season guarantees diversity.
"The response has been amazing about Rachel -- there's been a huge spike in casting," the insider revealed. "Rachel is open to different types of guys. So it'll be a mix of different types and races of guys for her season."
Another reason for the premature announcement? Lindsay has been able to do press for The Bachelorette and stir up some buzz for her hometown date with Viall in the upcoming February 20 episode.
"It'll be interesting to see how people react to Rachel's hometown date now -- the audience will probably be more invested now because this is somebody everyone is going to get to know for 10 weeks. People will be interested to see where she came from," the source added.
Besides Lindsay, the other bachelorettes still in the running for Viall's final rose are Corinne Olympios, Raven Gates and Vanessa Grimaldi.
