Despite facing stiff competition from Fox's post-Idol broadcast of its new The Swan series, ABC's two-hour premiere episode of the fifth installment of its The Bachelor series starring NFL Giants quarterback Jesse Palmer debuted well, averaging 11.08 million overall viewers and winning its time period in the Adults 18-49 demographic during its second hour.

The audience for The Bachelor increased significantly from start to finish, picking up viewers during each half-hour of its two-hour broadcast. From its first half-hour to its final half-hour, The Bachelor gained 4.4 million viewers (8.7 million to 13.1 million) and grew 62% among Adults 18-49 (4.0/11 to 6.4/17).
