BET is developing the first original series in its 25-year history, The Hollywood Reporter said Monday.

Formerly known as Black Entertainment Television, BET plans to introduce a new prime time series each quarter, beginning this month.

The Viacom-owned network plans a hip-hop version of "The Apprentice," with record-producer Damon Dash in the Donald Trump role, The Reporter said. Plans also call for development of a Monday-Friday late-night talk show.

The paper said the arrival of new shows could mean the demise of some existing programming, possibly including BET's 11 p.m. newscast "BET Nightly News."
