The cast, which is negotiating en masse in an attempt to strengthen their bargaining power and prevent MTV from doing a new season with only some of them, rejected the offer, according to TMZ.
In response, sources told TMZ that MTV doubled the offer to $10,000 an episode and the cast members -- who are all seeking equal fees -- have yet to respond to network, which reportedly has a contractual hold on the cast for another year.
A MTV spokesperson did not comment when contacted by TMZ and said a decision has yet to be made on whether to bring the show back for a second season.
Jersey Shore premiered in December and its first-season finale aired Thursday night. The finale averaged 4.8 million total viewers.
