Rap superstar Missy Elliott was recovering in New York Sunday from surgery to repair a torn left Achilles tendon.

She underwent surgery this week at a private hospital in New York, AllHipHop.com reports.
"Tearing your Achilles is no joke," Elliot said in a statement. "I can't even tell you how much pain I'm in, but I'm happy the surgery went well and I want to thank everyone for their concern."
Doctors say the recovery period could take up to a year.
