Mark Burnett Productions and MSN have announced that Rock Star's behind-the-scenes episodes, the weekly half-hour broadcasts that ended up airing on CBS' former VH1 sister network for most of the CBS reality show's first season, will "air" exclusively on MSN's Rock Star website when the show returns for its second season later this summer.

In addition to becoming the exclusive outlet for the behind-the-scenes episodes, MSN's Rock Star website will continue to feature video content from Rock Star's performance and results shows, both of which will continue to air on CBS.

After months of speculation regarding who would star in Rock Star's second season, CBS announced last month that this summer's second edition will look for a lead singer for Supernova, a new band comprised of former Motley Crüe drummer (and NBC reality show star) Tommy Lee, former Metallica guitarist Jason Newsted, and former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke.

Rock Star producer Mark Burnett had originally envisioned the pre-taped weekly behind-the-scenes episode as one of the key features that would distinguish Rock Star from other reality talent competitions like American Idol, however last summer's viewer response to the show's initial thrice-weekly broadcast schedule was lukewarm at best. While it rebounded somewhat strongly as its season went along, Rock Star: INXS (the full title of the show's first season), struggled mightily during its first month on the air, causing CBS to drop the behind-the-scenes episodes (originally broadcast on Monday nights, the day before the show's Tuesday night performance show) after only three broadcasts.

Instead, having already reportedly contracted to pay "in the neighborhood of $50 million" for Burnett to produce 38 episodes of Rock Star: INXS, CBS decided to move the behind-the-scenes show over to cable's VH1 network (at the time, CBS and VH1 were both Viacom networks, however as a result of the company's recent split, the two networks are no longer part of the same corporate parent.)

Just like last season, Rock Star 2's behind-the-scenes episode will show viewers how the contestants go about selecting their songs, prepare for their performances, and deal with the pressure and circumstances that come with being on the show.

CBS has not yet announced at premiere date for this summer's new season of Rock Star.
