The Sydney Morning Herald reports that aging rock star Rod Stewart, who has the #2 album in the U.S. right now, has been signed by MTV for a reality series. The show, tentatively titled Rod: Live and Uncensored, will focus on Rod's personal and home life, similar to MTV's The Osbournes.

Rod may have learned a thing or two about the reality TV business from watching his ex-wife Alana on ABC's I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!, but he should be able to improve on her drama-queen performance. He has lots of reasons to do so, because MTV has reportedly offered him $5 million up from for the show, with another $20 million contingent upon the show's success.
Why would people want to look at a reality show about Rod Stewart? Well, his career-long obsession with younger women currently has led the almost-59-year-old rocker to be paired up with 32-year-old model Penny Lancaster. He seethes with resentment, firing off scathing shots against Elton John, Paul McCartney and Sting in the British media just because he didn't think he was getting enough publicity for his new CD and career-compilation musical. And he has interesting (or maybe not) hobbies, such as model train sets and soccer.
Also, Rod has been the subject of bizarre rumors over the years, which may add a fascination factor to the show -- although, unlike Ozzy, he never bit the head off a bat in public. Frankly, we admit to being a little turned off by the prospect of seeing yet another creaky multimillionaire in a May-December romance with a young lovely, but maybe that's just us.
