Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough have reportedly split up... at least temporarily.

The American Idol host and former Dancing with the Stars professional dancer have decided to "take a break" and are no longer living together, People reported Friday night, citing sources close to the couple.

According to People's sources, heavy work schedules have made it difficult for Seacrest and Hough to maintain their romance relationship but the pair are still in regular contact and remain friends. Hough and Seacrest's representatives declined People's request for comment.

Seacrest, 38, and Hough, 24, have been dating for nearly three years and confirmed their relationship in late 2010 after dodging questions for months.

However, Seacrest's numerous other work endeavors -- which include his On Air With Ryan Seacrest radio show, E! News responsibilities, and his TV production company -- and Hough's blossoming movie career have restricted the amount of time the pair has been able to spend together.

"Honestly, their schedules were too hectic," a source told Us Weekly. "It just got to be too much. I think they both just sort of knew they couldn't do it anymore. The travel and lifestyle got to be too much. Who knows if this is just for now, but I think this is for good."

"Dude works all the time," a Seacrest pal told Us. "He never sleeps."

"It's a lifestyle she couldn't handle anymore. Work always, always came first [for Ryan] She wants a more low-key life."

Hough -- whose latest film, Safe Haven, was just released in theaters last month -- had addressed the difficulty of balancing the couple's busy schedules with their relationship last year while promoting her role in the movie remake of Footloose.

"It's a hard thing to do, especially when you're so caught up in your work and bettering yourself. It does get hard because you're so focused on that, but I think at the end of the day you have to find a balance with what's really important," she said.

"I'm so lucky that I have a great relationship. I'm very blessed and I don't take anything for granted. I think if you alienate people and just focus on your work then it just becomes lonely and it's not fun anymore."

Last month, Hough had told People she was anticipating her third Valentine's Day with Seacrest would be more low-key than prior years.

"Every year is really wonderful. The first two years were super romantic and like, over the top, because it was new. This year I think it will be more understated, like [celebrating] real joy of what we truly have," she explained. "I have no idea, but I know there are plans. He likes to do Valentine's Day."
