"Sarah Palin's Alaska," the hit of the TLC lineup in recent weeks, is unlikely to be back for a new season, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The most likely reason would be that Palin, the current rock star of the Republican right, plans a presidential run next year -- or at least does not want to close off on the possibility of one yet. If Palin was still doing the show when she became a candidate, TLC would have to offer her rivals equal time.

The Palin show averaged 3.2 million viewers, a huge audience for cable TV. It ends Sunday night with a two-hour finale.

Palin remains popular with Republicans although from the center to the left of the political spectrum few people think she is qualified to be president and even some of her supporters have their doubts.

The show generated a lot of publicity for TLC, even if much of it was hostile.
