Seven residents of a Uruguayan town were killed on Friday when they were run over by a train that they were manually moving during the filming of an episode of Desafio al Corazon, a local feel-good reality television series.

After pushing and pulling the locomotive and two attached cars down a track, several participants fell under the train's wheels when the train began moving faster than expected. According to the BBC, at least eleven other people were also injured.
"Somebody slipped and fell under the locomotive, and others were falling alongside it," eyewitness Ana Portela told local radio station El Espectador. "There were shouts and somebody said 'my arm!' Everybody was in a state of shock."
"We're deeply saddened and Channel 10 offers its solidarity and support to the families involved in this unexpected tragedy that came, in fact, while they were trying to help others," Channel 10 spokeswoman Graciela Baccino told The AP.
In addition to the participants, about 3,000 schoolchildren were also reportedly attending the filming and witnessed the accident. Local officials have reportedly declared three days of mourning.
