"We are happy to announce the birth of Sasha Pique Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Pique, born January 29 at 9:54pm, in Barcelona," they announced on her website.
"The name Sasha is of Greek and Russian descent and means 'defender of mankind' and 'warrior' ... both mother and child are in excellent health."
The couple already has a two-year-old son Milan.
Shakira had announced the sex of her second child last year. Reports of Shakira's second pregnancy had first surfaced in July but claimed she was having a little girl.
Shakira and Gerard met on the set of her music video for "Waka Waka," the official song of the 2010 World Cup.
