Simon Cowell claims the idea of a global talent competition "excites" him.

"I like the idea at the moment that we have to involve other countries," Cowell said at Sunday's British Academy Television Awards, People reported.
"I like the idea of England taking on other countries. That really excites me. It really does."
Cowell had stated he had "been thinking about doing this for a long time" in November 2007 and it was recently reported that there's a plan to air World's Got Talent next summer on ITV in the U.K. and stateside on NBC.
Got Talent is currently in about 65 countries, according to Cowell, so viewers are already familiar with the format.
"You just make it bigger," he said at the awards ceremony. "And I think we've got the opportunity to do that."
Cowell said he would intentionally ensure World's Got Talent isn't too much like World Idol, which aired in December 2003 and featured winners from eleven Idol editions from around the globe.
"We had a disaster when we attempted it once with Idol because we had about 16 judges and every one of them wanted to be me," he said.
"It was a disaster. It was a stupid format. So the show would have to work without judges."
While he's interested in doing it without on-stage judges, Cowell the format may still find a way to allow each country's World Got Talent broadcasts to include commentary from their own Got Talent edition's judges.
"What might be good is that along with [Britain's Got Talent judges Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden], I could do a running commentary for the U.K. feed where we would make our own remarks about the acts," he said at the ceremony.
