Simon Cowell left American Idol in 2010 to pursue The X Factor in America, but that doesn't mean he's disowned the Fox reality singing competition, nor is he ungrateful.

Following Fox's Monday announcement it's pulling the plug on American Idol after its fifteenth -- and final -- season airs in January 2016, Cowell offered up his thoughts.

In a media statement obtained by E! News, Cowell thanked the series and called out host Ryan Seacrest, the original panel of judges, and even Brian Dunkleman, who co-hosted Idol with Seacrest for Season 1 back in 2002.

"We had a blast!" Cowell said.

"Me, [Paula Abdul], [Randy Jackson], Ryan -- and not forgetting Brian. Thanks to the fans we were able to make some great shows and found some amazing artists. Fox took a risk on a brand new show and I want to thank them for giving us the opportunity. They really were great times."

Cowell, who left Idol before its tenth season premiered and was replaced by Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, had echoed the same comments on Twitter Monday night.
