Battle was found dead hanging in the bedroom closet of her apartment in West Hollywood on Friday morning, TMZ reported.
However, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has not completed an autopsy yet, so a formal cause of death has not been established.
Battle had made the Top 17 finalists on the first season of Fox's American edition of The X Factor.
Competing as a solo singer, she had been one of five finalists who were mentored by Simon Cowell in his "Girls Under 30" category. However, Cowell opted to eliminate Battle and fellow finalist Tiah Tolliver during a live performance show in which each of The X Factor's four judges were required to narrow their category to only three finalists.

Afterward, Battle had joined G.R.L., an all-girl group formed by Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin.
Antin released a joint statement confirming Battle's death along with Reign Deer Entertainment, Kemosabe Records and RCA Records.
"We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the loss of Simone Battle of G.R.L.," the statement said.
"Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being, and we are all devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this time."
