Nicole Richie's Los Angeles doctor says "The Simple Life" star's drastic weight loss is "in the realm of anorexia."
In the June issue of Vanity Fair, Richie reveals she is working with professionals to gain weight and warns others against emulating her emaciated look.
"I know I'm too thin right now, so I wouldn't want any young girl looking at me and saying, 'That's what I want to look like,'" she said. "I do know that they will, which is another reason I really do need to do something about it. I'm not happy with the way I look right now."
Richie said part of the reason for her rapid weight loss was the December breakup with her finance Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein, People magazine reported Thursday.
"I get really stressed out and I do lose my appetite," she said, adding she tried without success to eat high calorie foods and regain some weight.
When that didn't work, she sought help from a nutritionist, a doctor, a psychiatrist and a personal trainer.
One of the doctors treating her at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center described her condition as "in the realm of anorexia," but said it helps that "she's willing to look this in the eye."
