According to host Cat Deeley, 219 dancers were flown to Vegas to compete for a spot in Season 12's ultimate lineup of 10 Stage dancers and 10 Street dancers. The Stage dancers will be mentored by their captain Travis Wall, while the Street performers will be guided by their captain Stephen "tWitch" Boss.

On Day 1 of the callbacks, 114 Stage dancers joined Travis and were separated from the 105 Street dancers who met with tWitch. Viewers learned the Stage dancers would also be working with choreographers Josh Bergasse and Sonya Tayeh, while the Street dancers would be trained by Jamal Sims, Dave Scott, and Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo.

So You Think You Can Dance judges Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo were tasked with whittling down the numbers with the assistance of Travis and tWitch.

On the first day of auditions in Vegas, the judges asked the hopefuls to dance a short solo to remind them of their talent and strengths.

Standouts included Marissa Milele, a 20-year-old from Nashville, TN; Darion Flores, a 19-year-old from Hartford, CT; Gaby Diaz, a 19-year-old from Miami FL; Derek Piquette, an 18-year-old from Chicopee, MA; and Kelly Maccoy Noll, a 19-year-old from Cincinnati, OH.

A total of 41 members of Team Stage were sent packing after the Solo Round. Travis then gave his team some words of encouragement before passing them onto the choreography round during which they had to dance a contemporary routine.

For Team Street, some of the highlighted dancers included Tyrell Noll, a 21-year-old from Cincinnati OH; Yorelis Apolinario, a 19-year-old from Tampa FL; and Kenya "Standing O" Sutton, a 30-year-old from Detroit MI.

tWitch made a comment that his team might be comprised of all females, as they were completely outshining the male dancers.

A total of 62 Street performers moved onto the choreography round, which would entail a hip-hop routine choreographed by Jamal. Jamal is best known for having choreographed all of the Step Up movies.

The Street dancers really struggled with choreography. The judges even admitted at one point they were going really easy on everyone, which eventually had to stop.

On Day 2 of the Vegas Callbacks, Team Stage geared up for its next challenge. They had to dance a Broadway routine choreographed by Josh. As for Team Street, they had to learn another hip-hop routine choreographed by Dave. tWitch even jumped in to help his team during this round.

By the end of Day 2, a total of 36 Stage dancers remained in the competition and a total of 38 Street dancers were left.
