So You Think You Can Dance has been renewed for another season but its format will be very different this time around.

Throughout the auditions, the dancers who advance to the next round will be placed into two teams -- the "Stage" dancers and the "Street" dancers.
Stage dancers will include those trained in styles such as contemporary, ballet, jazz and tap. The latter will feature hopefuls skilled in hip-hop, animation or breaking. The show's judges and each team's all-star mentor will eliminate dancers as the process unfolds until only a Top 20 remains. The Top 20 will be comprised of 10 stage dancers and 10 street dancers.
When the competition goes live, the Top 20 will perform different choreographed routines from a broad range of dance styles each week and one dancer from each genre -- one stage dancer and one street dancer -- will be eliminated, leading right up to the Season 12 finale during which only one dancer will be crowned champion.
"So You Think You Can Dance is a rare jewel. It combines high art with mass entertainment in a seamless, sophisticated and hugely satisfying way," Fox reality chief Simon Andreae said in a statement.
"It's produced and consumed with tremendous passion and it's developed one of the most deservedly loyal followings in all of unscripted television. We are immensely proud to be returning it to the schedule with a thrilling new twist that will bring it up to date and introduce a whole new set of rooting opportunities."
Audition cities and dates will be announced at a later date.
So You Think You Can Dance's eleventh season concluded in September with Ricky Ubeda being declared the winner. He received a cash prize of $250,000, the cover of Dance Spirit Magazine, and a role in the Broadway revival of "On The Town." Ubeda also joined the rest of the eleventh season's Top 10 dancers for the show's 77-city tour, which will continue through February 18 of next year.
So You Think You Can Dance is produced by 19 Entertainment and dick clark productions with Lythgoe, Simon Fuller, Allen Shapiro, Barry Adelman, James Breen, and Jeff Thacker serving as executive producers.
