Spike TV has announced it has ordered a seventh season of Ink Master, a popular tattoo reality competition series, which is slated to premiere in Spring 2016 with 16 new episodes.

Ink Master puts artists through a series of tattoo challenges each week designed to test their technical skills and on-the-spot creativity. They must create an original tattoo by command on a "human canvas" with different styles of tattoos being executed every week. Such masterpieces will last a lifetime, but so will the artists' mistakes.

Ink Master is hosted by Dave Navarro with world-renowned tattoo artists Chris Nunez and Oliver Peck serving as judges.

In addition, the network has picked up a new spinoff Ink Master: Redemption that begins production this summer and will debut in September with six half-hour episodes. Ink Master: Redemption will give unhappy and disgruntled former "human canvases" who had once appeared on Ink Master the chance to receive a new and improved tattoo they'll love.

"With Americans spending more than $1 billion annually on tattoos, Ink Master has definitely hit a chord with viewers and has continued to grow as one of our most gender-balanced original series," Spike TV executive Chachi Senior said in a statement.

"The show's viewers are not only fans of the amazing artwork displayed, they are also invested in the human canvases and what happens when a client leaves unhappy with their tattoo. We have created Ink Master: Redemption to help answer those questions."

The sixth season of Ink Master is scheduled to premiere Tuesday, June 23 at 10PM ET/PT.

Ink Master is produced by Original Media -- a subsidiary of Endemol Shine North America -- with Steven Weinstock, Glenda Hersh and Andrea Richter serving as executive producers.
