It's another day and another injury for Dancing with the Stars' eighth season cast.

Jackass and Dr. Steve-O star Stephen "Steve-O" Glover further injured his back on Monday during dress rehearsals for the ABC celebrity dance competition's Monday night performance show, sending him to the hospital and forcing him to miss his live performance with his professional partner Lacey Schwimmer.

After making references to Steve-O's injury for the first hour of the live two-hour performance show, Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron said that the injury occurred during the couple's dress rehearsal about two hours before the broadcast began. After attempting a front flip for the finale of his salsa with Schwimmer, Steve-O landed on a microphone pack that had been placed on his lower back.

Later in the show, Schwimmer was able to offer a more detailed account of what happened, and added that the fall on the microphone pack wasn't the only injury Steve-O sustained during the dress rehearsal.

"He decided to do this front flip at the last minute today and he landed straight on his back on the microphone pack. And then we went backstage... It was pretty bad," Schwimmer told Bergeron. "He iced it, [the swelling] went down, and then we rehearsed backstage and [on] this other little move he slipped on and he hit my hip bone right on the edge of his spine and he started swelling up instantly. It's really large and it's really scary."

In the week prior to the dress rehearsal, Steve-O had already been limited somewhat by a lingering back injury and saw four specialists to get treatment for pulled sciatic nerves. Schwimmer said that while initial word from the hospital had been positive with no reports of any broken bones, but added that it was too soon to tell what Steve-O's condition was.

"Well nothing's broken, so that's amazing, but there are many other things that could be wrong," she told Bergeron.

Because Steve-O and Schwimmer could not perform their salsa dance, the couple's pre-recorded dress rehearsal of their dance was shown for judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba to score instead, as per the show's official rules. Despite the unfortunate situation, the judges were harsh on the performance, giving it a score of 14 out of 30 and raising their combined score for the couple's first two performances to a lackluster 31 out of 60.

Goodman admitted to feeling bad for Steve-O, and said that he was aware that it was hard to have the same "adrenaline pumping" in a practice that one would get during the live performance show. However, that didn't stop him from being very critical of the dance.

"What I saw I didn't get it as a performance at all," he said. "There was no salsa in the dance for me, I wasn't enjoying it."

Tonioli agreed, crediting Steve-O for his "appealing streak of madness" but saying that the dance nonetheless fell short.

"This was like a series of unfortunate events, and none of it made sense," he told Schwimmer. "It's supposed to be a salsa, and I know you tried really, really hard and I appreciate your creativity, but where is the salsa?"

"Yeah I agree with both of them. Sometimes it's just unnecessary and that shows it because he got hurt and that's really unfortunate because I saw a lot of promise in him," added Inaba. "He's a different type of character than we have on this show and it would've been enjoyable to watch. So hopefully he feels better, but once again, I don't think it was in the right vain for a salsa"

Following the judges' comments, Schwimmer told Bergeron that she felt the judges would have liked the performance more had they been able to perform it live, and added that Steve-O had not been happy that they would have to be judged on their dress rehearsal because of the very reasons the judges ended up singling out.

"He even told me he was so bummed out about going into the ambulance today. He was like 'Ours wasn't as good, we weren't dancing full out.' So yeah it would've been better [if we could dance live]"

Dancing with the Stars' first elimination show will air tonight at 9PM ET/PT on ABC and will feature the first elimination of the eighth season, an update on Steve-O's condition, and music performances by Jewel and The Big Bad Voodoo Daddies.
