Survivor: Edge of Extinction castaway Keith Sowell was voted out of his Manu tribe during the second episode of Season 38 on Wednesday night on CBS.

The Manu tribe voted out Keith, a 19-year-old pre-med student from Fayetteville, NC, who currently resides in Durham, NC, through a 6-1-1 at Tribal Council on Night 6 of the game.

The tribe thought they permanently ousted Keith from the competition to win $1 million, but Keith was given a decision to stay in the game or head to Ponderosa following his exit.

The episode, however, ended on a cliffhanger and did not reveal whether Keith had opted to test his luck by traveling to Extinction Island.

Wendy Diaz, a 25-year-old small business owner from Los Angeles, CA, who currently resides in Bell, CA, received one vote.

Kelley Wentworth, a 31-year-old marketing manager from Ephrata, WA, who currently resides in Seattle, WA, and previously appeared on Survivor: San Juan Del Sur and Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance, received one vote as well.

At the start of the broadcast, the Manu tribe was comprised of Keith; Wendy; Kelley; Lauren O'Connell, a 21-year-old student at Baylor University from Bakersfield, CA, who currently resides in Waco, TX; Dan "The Wardog" DaSilva, a 38-year-old law student and former military man from Ossining, NY, who currently resides in Los Angeles, CA; Rick Devens, a 33-year-old morning news anchor from Blacksburg, VA, who currently resides in Macon, GA; and Chris Underwood, a 25-year-old district sales manager from Myrtle Beach, SC, who currently resides in Greenville, SC.

The tribe also included David Wright, a 44-year-old television writer from Philadelphia, PA, who currently resides in Sherman Oaks, CA, and previously appeared on Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen-X.

The Kama tribe was made up of Victoria Baamonde, a 23-year-old waitress from Bronx, NY; Ron Clark, a 46-year-old teacher at Ron Clark Academy from Chocowinity, NC, who currently resides in Atlanta, GA; Julia Carter, a 24-year-old medical assistant from Hazleton, PA, who currently resides in Bethesda, MD; Eric Hafemann, a 34-year-old firefighter from Chicago, IL, who currently resides in Livermore, CA; Aurora McCreary, a 32-year-old divorce lawyer from Pensacola, FL, who currently resides in Orlando, FL; Julie Rosenberg, a 46-year-old toy maker from Baltimore, MD, who currently resides in New York, NY; and Gavin Whitson, a 23-year-old YMCA program director from Erwin, TN.

The tribe also included Joe Anglim, a 29-year-old multimedia artist from Chandler, AZ, who currently resides in Ogden, UT, and previously appeared on Survivor: Worlds Apart and Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance; and Aubry Bracco, a 32-year-old marketing director from Hampton Falls, NH, who currently resides in Los Angeles, CA, and previously appeared on Survivor: Kaoh Rong and Survivor: Game Changers.

The Survivor: Edge of Extinction episode began on Day 4, with Reem Daly surviving by herself at Edge of Extinction. She was lonely, hungry and pissed she had blown her chance in the game.

However, Reem insisted, "I'm not a quitter," and began building herself a shelter and finding coconuts to eat.

Reem didn't want to disappoint her family, and that's what kept her from raising the sail of the broken-down ship and surrendering.

Meanwhile, at Manu, Wendy spoke to Rick about how Kelley was a huge threat and seemed to be in charge. Wendy worried she was next in line and blamed Kelley, "the ring leader."

Wendy said Kelley had played twice before and so she already had her shot to win Survivor. Wendy wanted a newbie player to have his or her chance.

"Two times and you can't do it, you can't do it," Wendy told the cameras of Kelley.

"Don't try to mess up first-time players' games. And she has this personality where she's trying to be everyone's friend. People are eating that up -- but not I."

Wendy talked to Rick and David about her concerns, and the guys called them "valid." Wendy thought she could pull in Rick, David and Keith for the vote and so she'd only need one more.

Kelley knew Wendy was targeting her because she was on the bottom. Kelley didn't seem very worried, but she knew someone desperately scrambling could be "dangerous."

Kelley told Rick, David and Keith Wendy would likely flip on them come a swap or the merge, and so she determined Wendy needed to go and they couldn't allow her to find an idol.

Kelley therefore suggested to the group they all go hunting for an idol in order to get to it first, and everyone was onboard.

Meanwhile, the Kama tribe was having a great time together, dancing in the tribe. They had great morale and appeared to be in a positive place.

Aubry was trying to "blend in with everybody else." She didn't know where everyone stood because he tribe avoided the first Tribal Council session of the season.

Aubry -- who knew she and Joe were under a "magnifying glass" -- then asked Victoria and Julia in her tribe for their general thoughts on the returning players.

Aubry found it frustrating the newbies were not forthcoming about their perceptions of the returnees, but that's because she underestimated them.

Victoria discussed with Julia and Ron how Aubry was working all of the members of their tribe.

The group determined Aubry was saying the exact same thing to every player in attempt to bond and work with them.

"I heard, 'I just want to have an open dialogue' -- those kind of key words," Julia noted.

"Yeah, like, 'I like the way you think and you remind me of myself,'" Victoria added.

Victoria thought Aubry was a little panicked and was doing a great job of pulling people in. As a result, Victoria thought Aubry might need to be the next person to go.

On Day 4 at Manu, everyone was looking for a hidden Immunity Idol, and Rick and David became tight allies during their search.

David liked Wendy's pitch of getting rid of Kelley because his fellow returnee would never let him get to the end of the game. David knew Kelley was going to eliminate threats, so he was onboard with the blindside Wendy wanted.

David, however, needed Wardog to join their team for the vote, and that made him nervous because Wardog didn't like to talk strategy until absolutely necessary.

David also acknowledged it would be great to keep Wendy around for her loyalty. But one thing was certain -- David and Rick were ride-or-die allies. Rick called themselves "two peas in a pod," and David loved Rick's sense of humor.

"Rick is honestly the person I trust most in this game. Plus, he's really smart and strategic, which would really help my game. So I am going to try to keep Rick around for as long as possible," David said in a confessional.

Over at Kama's camp on Day 4, Gavin was shown looking for an idol, and Julie pointed out the men seemed to be playing an aggressive game while the women were just sitting back and chatting.

Julie told Victoria they needed to look for an idol themselves, but Victoria admitted she had no idea how she'd even begin searching for one.

Victoria joked all of the trees "looked a little funky" so it was difficult, and Julie admitted looking for an idol was sneaky and she didn't like being a sneaky person.

But just as Julie noted men tend to find all the idols, Lauren stumbled across one in a tree. Her dream of finding a Survivor idol finally came true, and she was just glad her Survivor role model, Kelley, didn't find it.

Lauren felt "ecstatic" about her find but planned to keep the news to herself and not share it with Kelley.

On Day 6, both tribes gathered together and met Jeff Probst for the season's next Immunity Challenge.

Each tribe was required to swim out to a cage in the ocean, get up and over the cage, untie a very long and heavy snake, drag the snake out of the cage and get it back to shore, place the snake in a cradle, and untie a series of knots that would release a series of numbered tiles.

Those tiles would help a player solve a combination lock, and then the lock would release eight rings. Each tribe then had to land all eight rings on a series of targets that would ultimately spell "Immunity."

In addition, the castaways were playing for Reward, and the winning tribe could choose one of two options: Spices, knives and a cutting board, or, a deluxe Survivor fishing kit.

Aubry attempted the challenge before but her tribe lost, so she was hoping to change that story today.

Julie sat out in order to even up the numbers and then the challenge commenced. The snake proved to be incredibly heavy, and Keith held his tribe back with his poor swimming skills and lack of strength.

Once it became time to toss rings, Joe and Eric did an excellent job throwing rings, but when Keith tried for his tribe, he didn't appear to land a single one. Chris tried to pick up the slack, but then he ran out of time.

In the end, Kama won immunity and the tribe chose the fishing package as their reward.

Wardog noted after the challenge maybe the vote was no longer "a binary equation" between Kelley and Wendy since Keith emerged as "a liability." Wardog figured Keith might be the best target because he held them back in challenges.

Once the two tribes returned to camp, Keith on Manu confessed his performance was "a disaster" and he "looked horrible." He was sure before the challenge that Wendy was going home, but Keith realized his name might be on the chopping block now.

Wardog then talked to Lauren about how important it was to keep their tribe physically strong, but Kelley thought the plan was "stupid" because Keith wasn't a threat to anybody and Wendy had been gunning to get her out.

David knew trying to convince Wardog to take Kelley out was going to be difficult, so he no longer had the five numbers he needed to successfully get rid of the returnee.

Chris, however, didn't want to eliminate Keith from the tribe because the game meant a lot to him. Keith also promised Chris loyalty since Chris often helped him out in challenges.

"That's not the type of player you vote out," Chris noted in a confessional.

So before Tribal Council, Chris suggested to Rick they vote out Kelley, which excited both David and Keith.

The plan to take out Kelley seemed to have new life, but when Kelley tried to get Wardog onboard, Wardog said Kelley would serve as a shield for them come a swap or merge.

Wardog thought Chris' plan was "shortsighted" although Kelley was clearly a gamer.

Kelley could tell the vibe had changed at camp and she may be in trouble. Kelley admitted if she went home, she would be totally pissed off.

At Tribal Council that night, Kelley announced she was an asset to the tribe because she would always serve as a shield. Kelley also insisted she's a strong tribe member and they needed to win future challenges.

But Keith argued it was important to keep members you could trust in order to remain a voting unit. Keith knew he was on the chopping block based on challenge performance.

Wardog said once the votes were read, he would know where he stands in the tribe, and David predicted a blindside was coming because he could guess how each person was going to vote.

After votes were cast, Probst read them aloud in the following order: Kelley, Keith, Wendy, Keith, Keith, and Keith.

On his way out, Keith made fun of his tribe that they probably still wouldn't win challenges.

"Dang it!" Keith yelled on his way out, before approaching the sign that gave him an option to resume playing.

Keith hesitated on what to do and prayed to God for some direction, and then the episode ended.
