Survivor 42 featured the Vati Tribe voting out Daniel Strunk instead of Chanelle Howell on a re-vote right before the merge during Wednesday night's episode on CBS.

Daniel, a 30-year-old law clerk from Cincinnati, OH, who currently resides in New Haven, CT, was voted out of Survivor on Night 11 of the game at Tribal Council on a 2-0 revote.

On the first vote of the evening, Daniel received two votes and Chanelle, a 29-year-old executive recruiter from Hamden, CT, who currently resides in New York, NY, received two votes.

Mike Turner, a 58-year-old retired firefighter from Hoboken, NJ, received one vote at Tribal Council.

"I got totally blindsided. I would have preferred to execute the blindside, but at least I got a form of blindside. That's part of the Survivor experience," Daniel said in his final words.

"If I could have scripted my life, I probably wouldn't have given myself leukemia, right? And if I could have scripted Survivor, I probably would have had myself winning, but the beauty of life is that it's unscripted and that's how we find meaning in it."

The Survivor broadcast began over at Ika's camp on Night 9.

The Ika Tribe was comprised of Tori Meehan, a 25-year-old therapist from Tulsa, OK, who currently resides in Rogers, AR; Drea Wheeler, a 35-year-old fitness consultant from San Antonio, TX, who currently resides in Montreal, Quebec; Rocksroy Bailey, a 44-year-old stay-at-home dad from Brooklyn, NY, who currently resides in Las Vegas, NV; and Romeo Escobar, a 37-year-old pageant coach from Los Angeles, CA, who currently resides in Norwalk, CA.

Romeo explained how they had voted out Swati Goel because of her attempt to play everybody and label each person in the tribe her "No. 1." But Rocksroy felt "betrayed" and "duped" since his tribemates had left him out of the vote.

Rocksroy told the tribe they had done well in eliminating a shady player, but he began to worry about his ability to pick up on social cues.

"If I need to ride someone's social coattails, I will," Rocksroy joked.

Rocksroy apologized to Tori for having written her name down, and she acted like everything was fine although she couldn't wait to jump ship on him and stop working with him in the game.

On Day 10 at the Taku camp, the girls were talkative and seemed happy and energetic, but Jonathan Young admitted the constant chatter drove him crazy.

The Taku Tribe consisted of Jonathan, a 29-year-old beach service co-owner from Gadsden, AL, who currently resides in Gulf Shores, AL; Lindsay Dolashewich, a 31-year-old dietitian from Morganville, NJ, who currently resides in Asbury Park, NJ; Maryanne Oketch, a 24-year-old seminary student from Ajax, Ontario; and Omar Zaheer, a 31-year-old veterinarian from Kitchener, Ontario, who currently resides in Whitby, Ontario.

Jonathan apparently craved silence and never got it, and so at one point, he took off from the camp and went fishing. He called his tribemates, namely Maryanne and Lindsay, "ridiculous" and was sick of dealing with their "bologna."

Jonathan tried his best not to argue with Maryanne or yell at her, but he told Lindsay how Maryanne was "so annoying" and they needed to vote her out next. Jonathan accused Maryanne of always making a mountain out of a molehill, and Maryanne became paranoid about Jonathan gathering troops to take her out.

"Maryanne is annoying but she has a potential Immunity Idol and she has an extra vote," Omar said in a confessional.

"We need her, and I guarantee you, come the merge time, if the other tribes see this sort of behavior, they'll jump on that right away. They'll pick her up and then in a minute, you'll be gone because you couldn't stop being petty."

On Day 10, the Vati tribe was hoping the merge would be coming soon.

The Vati Tribe was made up of Daniel; Chanelle; Mike; Lydia Meredith, a 22-year-old waitress from Fredericksburg, VA, who currently resides in Santa Monica, CA; and Hai Giang, a 29-year-old data scientist from Gia Rai, Bac Lieu, Vietnam and Atlanta, GA, who currently resides in New Orleans, LA.

Hai said he didn't trust any of his tribemates and it took going to their first Tribal Council for him to realize that. He especially had no trust in Daniel or Chanelle.

Hai therefore told Lydia the easy vote going into the merge would be Chanelle.

Daniel gave his tribe a B- on morale but a D- on survival skills, saying how his tribe was running off their own body fat. Daniel attempted to spearfish with a previously-dislocated shoulder, and so Hai wondered why he could fish but not participate in team challenges.

"We've carried Daniel from Day 1, hiding his shoulder and putting him out of challenges so it's not exposed. How long can you carry a guy before it becomes a true liability?" Mike questioned.

On Day 10, Romeo and Drea went out looking for an idol. He called Drea his "No. 1 ally" and pointed out how it's so important to be able to fully trust at least one person in this game. Romeo, being a pageant coach, said he loves working with strong, independent women.

Suddenly, Drea found a package in a tree, and the letter read, "Be Aware: Advantage. If you take it, it's yours and you must do what it says. Otherwise, leave it."

Drea decided to take the advantage and discovered she had found a three-way shared Immunity Idol. She found out that each tribe beach had one and at the next Immunity Challenge, she must say a secret phrase in front of the other players.

Once all three phrases were said at the Immunity Challenge, Drea's idol would be active and come into play. However, until then, she could not vote at any Tribal Council sessions.

Drea couldn't vote, but she did have an extra vote, and so she planned to maneuver and give Romeo her extra vote. Drea proudly called herself "Survivor Rich."

Drea learned she must announce, "Potatoes have skin. I have skin. Am I a potato?"

Drea and Romeo also found out that Maryanne had a part of this idol because she kept mentioning bunny rabbits in a mailbox. The girls, however, had yet to hear a statement made about soccer having such grace that it makes the person cry.

Mike had the third piece to the idol, but he was keeping it a secret and using it as a weapon for his allies come the merge. Mike wasn't sure whether this was a mistake, however, and so he was contemplating also saying his "soccer" phrase.

On Day 11, the three tribes gathered and met Survivor host Jeff Probst for the next Immunity Challenge.

All three castaways -- Drea, Maryanne and Mike -- spoke their phrases. Mike said he had made a game-time decision, and so all three castaways now had active idols going forward.

For the Immunity Challenge, each tribe was required to race up and over a tall net ramp, and then one player must untangle braided ropes to release a key, which would be used to unlock a machete.

Using the machete, each tribe would break open a bag of sandbags, which would then be fired at two targets.

The first time to finish would win immunity as well as Reward in the form of a large tarp. The second tribe to finish would also be safe and receive a smaller tarp.

Daniel then whispered to his tribemates how he added very little value to the challenge, and so he opted to sit out, which prompted Jeff to declare, "Again?!"

Omar struggled to untangle the ropes to release the key, allowing the other two tribes to pass them with flying colors.

In the end, Rocksroy won the challenge for Ika before Vati was able to knock down either of their two targets.

Jonathan and Mike then went head to head trying to knock down their targets. Mike knocked down one for Vati, but Jonathan was able to knock down both of his targets first for Taku.

Taku therefore finished in second place after a big comeback, sending Vati to Tribal Council.

Jeff then revealed two players would be taking a journey that day. Ika had to pick a castaway from Vati, and they selected Lydia. And then they had to choose another person to join Lydia either from Taku or their own tribe. With that being said, they selected Rocksroy.

Hai said he was actually excited about losing the challenge because now he could "trim the fat" of his tribe, hopefully sending Daniel or Chanelle home because they had led him on and drew Tribal lines.

At Vati's camp on Day 11, Hai reminded everyone they'd still be a Vati family at the end of this.

Daniel said he didn't trust Chanelle anymore, and he promised Hai to stick with him going forward. Hai therefore told Daniel that he trusted him more than Chanelle and so Chanelle needed to go that night no matter what, mainly because she would be the most likely to flip at the merge.

Mike and Chanelle, however, agreed that they wanted Daniel gone, and Mike flat out said, "Daniel is going home."

Mike wanted to make sure Daniel felt confident enough that he wouldn't play his "Shot in the Dark."

But Hai thought Mike was on his side, telling the cameras, "Now that Mike has his vote, we have the majority of the votes between Lydia, myself and Mike that we can split up in case one of them plays 'Shot in the Dark' or has an advantage."

Mike said Lydia could not take a risk on her journey and lose her vote or else her allies would be in big trouble at Tribal Council.

Rocksroy could tell Lydia was in trouble, and she tried to get a feel for how camp life was and whom he trusted.

However, Lydia complained that she got nothing out of Rocksroy, who didn't want to give too much information away to an opponent.

Lydia and Rocksroy were then asked to make a separate decision before returning to camp.

The two castaways had to choose "Protect Your Vote" or "Risk Your Vote."

If Lydia and Rocksroy both picked "risk," then they'd both lose their vote at the next Tribal Council. If the pair both chose "protect," nothing would change and they could vote at the next Tribal Council.

If the two players chose differently, the person who selected "risk" would receive an extra vote.

Rocksroy thought Lydia would risk her vote because she seemed to be at the bottom of the totem pole in her tribe, and so he opted to protect his vote. Lydia also chose to protect her vote, knowing her allies would need her help.

"I don't feel comfortable giving away the most important thing I have in this game," Lydia explained.

Daniel then apologized to Lydia for having voted for her before. Lydia said she didn't trust Chanelle but also viewed Daniel as a liability, and so she and Hai had a big decision to make as a pair.

Hai called the vote that night "monumental," because it would affect what happens after the merge and would determine how well he does in this game.

At Tribal Council on Night 11, the tribe talked about comradery and friendship and enjoyed a few laughs, and Daniel said he'd be friends with Mike for a long time after the game.

But Chanelle insisted that Daniel was playing to Mike's "soft spot," his heart. Chanelle said Daniel was just playing the game, but Daniel said he didn't intend any strategy through his words and he was just being true to himself.

Lydia pointed out how after this vote, each tribe was going to be comprised of four tribe members and so no one had the numbers.

"I think one of the criteria is who can I trust the most going forward, especially in a game where the numbers are not obvious?" Lydia said.

Hai agreed with Lydia, pointing out how six blindsides had been made at the previous Tribal Council.

Jeff declared how the person going home that evening seemed to be the least-trustworthy person in the tribe.

"My vote tonight is strictly gameplay. It has nothing to do with how I personally feel -- at all," Mike announced. "I want to be friends with the person I vote out tonight for the rest of my life. Sometimes it's hard to play Survivor in the way you want to play it, and tonight, I'm playing Survivor."

Daniel then flashed a worried look on his face.

After the castaways voted, Jeff read the votes aloud in the following order: Chanelle, Daniel, Chanelle, Daniel, and Mike.

Mike seemed shocked by the vote for him, and then Jeff explained how they were going to handle the tie.

"We're going to revote, and you can only vote for Daniel or Chanelle. Daniel and Chanelle, you can only vote for each other, so you won't vote," Jeff said.

After the revote, Daniel received two votes and was voted out of Survivor 42. He said, "Well played, guys," on his way out.

"Man, that's heartbreaking," Daniel muttered under his breath after Jeff snuffed his torch.

Mike looked at Chanelle and expressed how he was surprised someone had voted for him.

The episode's closing credits later showed that on the first vote, Lydia and Hai voted for Daniel, Mike and Daniel voted for Chanelle, and Chanelle cast the rogue vote for Mike.
