The 23-year-old "Teen Mom 2" star addressed her 30-day stay for anxiety and depression while discussing her difficult past year on Monday's episode of "The Steve Harvey Show."

"It took me quite some time to know whether I was gonna go or not," Messer recalled. "I knew I was suffering from something. I didn't know what it was. I just knew that I was suffering and I needed help."

"A big part that led into my anxiety and depression [is] I put every single bit of me into my kids and my marriage and my house and it always felt like it wasn't enough," she explained in retrospect.

"I had to learn to that I had to make time for myself, even if that was in the bathtub listening to and practicing [Eckhart Tolle's book] The Power of Now," the star said. "That's the change that I had to make to be able to be happy and healthy."

Messer entered rehab amid rumors ex-husband Corey Simms suspected her of having a drug addiction. Her rehab stint coincided with the pair's custody battle, and Messer admitted it was "hard" to go through the experience in the public eye.

"I honestly put my life out there to be a positive influence and really to reach out to people," she said. "Like, that is my only desire. There's nothing else to gain from [fame]. It's so painful when people are so judgmental but I just stop allowing it to affect me."

Messer previously told fans she is "following through with therapy and outpatient" in a Facebook Q&A in October. She acknowledged "a positive change" in herself since treatment, adding she's "doing everything to be the best version of [herself] possible."

The "Teen Mom 2" star shares 6-year-old twin daughters Ali and Aleeah with Simms and 3-year-old daughter Adalynn with ex-husband Jeremy Calvert.
