The Amazing Race broadcast began with "Dating Couple" Dana Borriello and Matt Steffanina leaving the first Pit Stop in first place at 1:42PM. They were then followed by "Best Friends" Tyler Oakley and Korey Kuhl at 1:43PM, "Newlyweds" Zach King and Rachel King at 1:57PM, and then "Brothers" Cameron Benson and Darius Benson at 2:07PM.
Behind Cameron and Darius were "Best Friends" Kurt Gibson and Brodie Smith at 2:16PM, "Dating Couple" Burnie Burns and Ashley Jenkins at 2:17PM, "Best Friends" Jessica Versteeg and Brittany Oldehoff at 2:29PM, Marty and Hagan at 2:34PM, "Mother and Son" Sheri LaBrant and Cole LaBrant at 2:43PM, "Best Friends" Erin White Robinson and Joslyn Davis at 2:45PM, and finally "Father and Daughter" Scott Fowler and Blair Fowler at 3:04PM.
The teams' first clue instructed to fly to the walled city of Cartagena, Colombia, and then make their way to the mud volcano of Totumo.
Dana and Matt booked the first flight, which arrived in Cartagena at 8:59AM. Tyler and Korey were right behind them and booked the same flight, As Darius and Cameron wandered around looking for the right ticket counter at the airport -- and Darius mentioning he's naturally laid-back and being assertive is difficult for him -- Burnie and Ashley and Brodie and Kurt also booked the 8:59AM flight.
Meanwhile, Marty said that, as a flight attendant, she had experience getting tickets and maneuvering through airports. Zach and Rachel then grabbed seats on the second flight, landing at 9:37AM. Brittany and Jessica were right on their heels as well as Sheri and Cole and Erin and Joslyn.
Although Marty and Hagan appeared to approach the ticket counter at the same time as Scott and Blair, the "Father and Daughter" team booked the last seats on the second flight, leaving Marty and Hagan with a flight-arrival time of 10AM. Eventually, Darius and Cameron hopping on a flight that would land in Colombia at 10:30AM.
Marty and Hagan also experienced a bit of bad luck, as their flight was delayed 10 minutes and they had an extremely slow taxi driver on their ride to the volcano.
Brodie and Kurt arrived at the volcano in first place. On their heels were Dana and Matt, Burnie and Ashley and Tyler and Korey. Trailing behind the pack were Brittany and Jessica, who got to the volcano in ninth place, and then Marty and Hagan and Darius and Cameron, who were fighting for tenth place.
It then became time for one member of each team to complete a Roadblock task.
For the task, the participating Racers had to change into swimsuits, and then enter the volcano. After submerging themselves head to toe in the mud, they had to search for an emerald under the surface and deliver it to an attendant on the nearby lakeshore.
Brodie opted to take on the Roadblock for his team. He was later joined by Ashley, Dana, Korey, Joslyn, Blair, Cole, Rachel, Brittany, Cameron, and Hagan.

The task was more messy and gross than difficult, however, Hagan struggled to find her emerald. She also had a lot of pressure on her since she knew most of the teams had already passed them.
Brodie and Kurt finished the Roadblock before any of the other teams. They were soon followed by Burnie and Ashley, Dana and Matt, and Tyler and Korey. In the back of the pack, Darius and Cameron managed to finish the task before Marty and Hagan.
The teams were then instructed to make their way to the juice stand of Mello Farandula Jugos Naturales in Manzanillo del Mar.
Brodie and Kurt got there first followed by Burnie and Ashley, Dana and Matt and Tyler and Korey. Way behind them were Brittany and Jessica in ninth place, Darius and Cameron in tenth place, and finally Marty and Hagan in last place.
While the teams learned there was a Detour task to complete, Scott and Blair learned they first had to finish a Speed Bump task given to them as a consequence for landing in last place at the previous non-elimination leg.
Scott and Blair discovered they must help the locals haul in a large fishing net and then pick up the fish they had caught.
Meanwhile, the two Detour options were "Pop-Up" or "Parrilla."
"Pop-Up" required the teams to build a shelter on the beach using wooden poles, tarps and wire. When their shelter was approved, a local would drive a car beneath it, and hand over their next clue.

Tyler and Korey wanted to try the shelter task in addition to Brodie and Kurt, Burnie and Ashley, Dana and Matt, Zach and Rachel, and Sheri and Cole.
The teams who opted to cook fish were Brittany and Jessica, Erin and Joslyn, Scott and Blair, Marty and Hagan, and Darius and Cameron.
Tyler and Korey finished the Detour in first place and were proud of themselves for jumping ahead of Brodie and Kurt, who finished in second place. Burnie and Ashley were done with the Detour in third place followed by Dana and Matt. In the back of the pack were Zach and Rachel in seventh place, Sheri and Cole in eighth, Scott and Blair in ninth, Marty and Hagan in tenth, and then Darius and Cameron in last place.
The teams' next set of clues instructed them to go to the Pit Stop, which was at the Plaza Bolivar.
Although Marty and Hagan completed the Detour before Darius and Cameron, they had left their taxi earlier. In a rush to start the task, they just ran away from him.
Therefore, as Marty and Hagan were running back to the juice stand to find a taxi, they saw Darius and Cameron drive by them in a cab. The girls knew right then and there the Race was probably over for them.
In the end, Tyler and Korey stepped on the Pit Stop mat in first place and won a trip for two to St. Thomas.
Brodie and Kurt secured second place, while Burnie and Ashley snagged third and Dana and Matt finished fourth. Erin and Joslyn then met The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan at the Pit Stop followed by Zach and Rachel, Brittany and Jessica, Sheri and Cole, and then Scott and Blair in ninth place.
Darius and Cameron arrived at the Pit Stop soon afterwards in tenth place, and then Marty and Hagan learned they had finished last and been eliminated from the Race. Hagan cried because she had so much more to give, but her mother was really proud of her.
