The Amazing Race broadcast began with "Best Friends" Kurt Gibson and Brodie Smith leaving the third Pit Stop at 10:22AM. They were followed by "Best Friends" Tyler Oakley and Korey Kuhl in second place at 10:30AM and then "Dating Couple" Burnie Burns and Ashley Jenkins in third at 10:48AM.
Behind Burnie and Ashley were "Dating Couple" Dana Borriello and Matt Steffanina leaving at 11:19AM, Brittany and Jessica at 12PM, "Mother and Son" Sheri LaBrant and Cole LaBrant at 12:44PM, and "Best Friends" Erin White Robinson and Joslyn Davis at 1:27PM. The departure times for "Newlyweds" Zach King and Rachel King and "Father and Daughter" Scott Fowler and Blair Fowler were not shown.
The teams' first set of clues instructed them to fly from South America to Geneva, Switzerland and find the jet stream located on the banks of Lake Geneva.
All the teams hopped on the same flight, so the Race was a level playing field for everyone.
Tyler and Korey arrived at the jet stream in first place and they were soon followed by Zach and Rachel, Brittany and Jessica, Dana and Matt, Burnie and Ashley, Brodie and Kurt, Sheri and Cole, Erin and Joslyn, and finally Scott and Blair.
The teams then headed to Chocolate Rohr. Burnie and Ashley got there first and learned the place didn't open until 10AM the next morning. Everyone grabbed a time for the next morning. After Burnie and Ashley came Erin and Joslyn, Sheri and Cole, Zach and Rachel, Tyler and Korey, Dana and Matt, Brittany and Jessica, Brodie and Kurt, and Scott and Blair.
All the teams camped overnight in a cave -- during which Blair and Brodie, nicknamed "Blodie," cuddled and flirted in the dark -- and took off the next morning.
It then became time for the teams to complete one of two possible Detour tasks: "Work Bench" or "Bench Work."
In "Work Bench," the teams had to build a Swiss Army Knife by assembling 27 tiny, intricate pieces by hand in an exact order to receive their next clue.
"Bench Work" required the teams to alternate sitting along what is supposedly the world's longest wooden bench and calculate how many people could fit on it at one time. Tyler and Korey, Zach and Rachel, and Scott and Blair all decided to try the knife task, while everyone else ran off to the 240-year-old bench.
Brittany and Jessica wanted to make a Swiss Army Knife but got lost trying to find the task's location. After exchanging a few words with Sheri and Cole, who also appeared lost, Brittany and Jessica ran to the bench task.

The correct answer at the bench task was anywhere in the range from 190-197. Zach and Rachel guessed 217 at first, which was way too high, and Brittany and Jessica's first guess was 163, which was way too low. The task proved to be more difficult than anyone expected.
Once Brodie and Kurt completed the bench task, they told Burnie and Ashley the answer so that the two teams could remain up front together.
Brodie and Kurt finished the Detour in first place after they guessed 190. They were soon followed by Burnie and Ashley, Tyler and Korey, Sheri and Cole, Dana and Matt, Erin and Joslyn, Zach and Rachel, Scott and Blair, and finally Brittany and Jessica. The models got the right answer on their third attempt.
The teams then learned they must make their way to the Broken Chair and search for their next clue.
Tyler and Korey got to the chair first and were followed by Brodie and Kurt, Burnie and Ashley, Sheri and Cole, Dana and Matt, Zach and Rachel, Scott and Blair, and Brittany and Jessica.
One member from each team was then required to complete a Roadblock task.
For the Roadblock, the participating Racers had to identify the flags of 10 countries -- the founding members -- at the U.N. building. When they presented the correct pictures of the flags to the judge, they'd receive their next clue.
Burnie took on this Roadblock task on behalf of his team. He was joined by Kurt, Cole, Matt, Korey, Blair, Joslyn, Rachel, and Jessica.

While Jessica took the move personally, Blair explained to the cameras that there had to be at least one team behind them, so it didn't make sense to allow Jessica to catch up to them.
Burnie and Ashley finished the Roadblock in first place. They were soon followed by Brodie and Kurt, Sheri and Cole, Dana and Matt, Tyler and Korey, Scott and Blair, Erin and Joslyn, Zach and Rachel, and Brittany and Jessica.
The teams were then instructed to travel by train to the French Alps and the town of Chamonix, home of the very first Winter Olympics. The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan waited for the teams in the center of town at the Pit Stop.
There ended up being two connections. Brittany and Jessica appeared to miss the train that had all the other teams on it by a matter of seconds. It was clear everyone except the models was going to arrive in Chamonix at the same time and it'd be a footrace to the Pit Stop.
Brodie and Kurt stepped on the Pit Stop mat in first place and walked away with $3,000 each. Tyler and Korey finished in second place, while Dana and Matt came in third.
Burnie and Ashley completed the leg in fourth place, and they were soon followed by Zach and Rachel in fifth, Erin and Joslyn in sixth, Sheri and Cole in seventh, and Scott and Blair in eighth place. Later on, Brittany and Jessica arrived at the Pit Stop in ninth -- and last -- place.
Phil announced Brittany and Jessica's elimination, and the girls cried about how much it sucked to go home early. However, they had a great time together and wouldn't have wanted to run the Race with anyone else.
