The Amazing Race claimed Outstanding Reality-Competition Program for the tenth time during Monday night's awards show. The Amazing Race defeated Dancing with the Stars, Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef, and The Voice in the category.
This marks the tenth time The Amazing Race has won the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program award in the 12 years since the Emmy category was created in 2003.
The Amazing Race had an initial seven-year Emmy winning streak until Top Chef ended it in 2010. It then regained the honor in 2011 and held onto it in 2012 for the 63rd and 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremonies. The Voice then took the honor away last year at the 65th annual awards ceremony.
"I can assure you we didn't expect this at all, really. And so, I want to thank the Academy, CBS, [CBS Corporation CEO] Les Moonves, [CBS Entertainment chairman] Nina Tessler, [CBS Entertainment reality chief] Chris Castallo over there, and all the hundreds and hundreds of people who have worked so hard to do the show around the world," Bertram van Munster, The Amazing Race's co-creator and executive producer, said in his acceptance speech.

"The world is not a bad place, actually, you can go safely to a lot of places contrary to what they make you believe. So thank you very, very much."
In addition to Outstanding Reality-Competition Program, The Amazing Race was nominated for five other Emmys this year: Outstanding Cinematography For Reality Programming, Outstanding Directing For Nonfiction Programming, Outstanding Picture Editing For Reality Programming, Outstanding Sound Editing For Nonfiction Programming (Single Or Multi-Camera), and Outstanding Sound Mixing For Nonfiction Programming.
